"Everybody faps a shoe in Shitsville". Sing it, Sid & Marty Kroft.

Dirk Kuyt is a bag of shit.

Totti is a shit burger, but today he came through. The man who never lets down city but always lets down his counrty redeemed himself in difficult circumstances. He was the one and only choice to take that PK and he did not disappoint. Then, after the match he was man enough to say "it was only a PK". Bravo.

And, Dirk Kuyt (a.k.a. Dick Kuyp) is a bag of shit.

I would like to see any of those wankers blurt out the starting lineup for Shakhtar Donestk and name their captain, that's for sure. Hell, I would just like them to pronounce "Tote-tee" the correct fucking way.

If you don't know football, please don't fucking talk it to me.
ESPN prides itself on being THE sports network here. I really hope someone sees their hubris as an opportunity to sweep in with a competitive sports network and expose them for the sham that they are. It should not be difficult. :groan:

Univision so rules. ESPN is so bad, it's not only made me switch channels ... it's made me switch languages.

Fortunately for my wife, ESPN hasn't made me switch sexual orientations to get better coverage. But if it wasn't for Univision, I'd have to seriously consider it.

Well they do air the national anthems sometimes, however you're right, they respect the people who put money in their bank more than the actual countries partaking in the event. I simply do not understand why we have to deal with faces such as Balboa, Alexei Lalas, and Julie Foudy...people who only know about the game through playing, not watching...on the halftime show or preaching the game to our compatriots. It's like ESPN only gives jobs on the basis of names rather than actual skill anymore. The only people on the commentating crew I enjoy are John Harkes and Eric Wynalda, and that is because the former played in Europe and is a major fan of the European leagues. Does Julie Foudy ever turn her channel to a Serie A match? I highly doubt it. Yet they think these people are qualified for such a position when you and I can obviously see they are not up to the task.

And it's a shame the best commentator of the entire crew for ESPN is an Englishman who is paired with the drunk dunderhead of an Irishman we call Tommy Smith.
I believe it's because ESPN belives in the cult of sports personality over the cult of competency. Unfortuantely, when it comes to the star power of American former players, you're dealing with a pop gun to begin with -- giving you almost no personality on top of incompetence.

The real telltale match was Iran-Mexico. The focus of the coverage of that match was on Iran: but almost none of the players. We heard about the Iranian president, protests, etc. ABC/ESPN/Disney/Satan took a lot of deserved flack for that. And if a sports commentator needs to fill up 90 minutes of air time when they know completely nothing about the squad, they turn to their dentist office issue of Newsweek to tell us about their nation's politics.

Get out the top hat and tails and dance like a monkey for everyone... wheeeee! :weee:

@ Nick, for whenever he returns with more specimen bags to fill:

It looks like Sheva's signing for Chelsea was akin to Samson cutting his hair. That boy is starting to play like a new Inter signing. Looks like cutting bait and taking the cash may not have been such a bad deal afterall. ;)

I don't often side for England fanatically but I sincerely hope they eliminate the Portuguese. As disgusting a performance as Holland put up: Portugal were hardly better. That, and I think they should stick to their reputation of being Europe's Inter. Losing at home to Greece is pretty embarassing :D
Oh, Portugal certainly are Europe's Inter to some degree. But given Holland's World Cup history, relative FIFA ranking, and match history against Portugal, you might want to set down that brick while in your tulip greenhouse there, my man. :p

Hey at least we won a trophee in the dragon's cave: 1988 European Championship in West-Germany. I can't see Portugal winning anything on Spanish grounds.

And bringing FIFA rankings into this? Shame on you..!

Add to that the facts that the Dutch national league has hardly any viewers beyond the 16 million home population whereas the Portuguese league (so I've heard) is quite popular in Brazil, as well as parts of Africa and Asia - which generates more income for their clubs through television deals and sponsorships that can be used to train youngsters - and Portugal has just been massively underperforming. Their World Cup record is shameful even when compared to the Dutch record. Losing two finals, several semi- and quarter-finals and bringing the world Total Football sounds like a CV from heaven compared to what the Portuguese ever did, despite their potential, which exceeds that of the Dutch.

So I'm studying all the regions of Italy at the moment. Well, let's say I'm studying the northern regions, I know more than enough about the southern to succeed anyway. But what's up with these Alpi Carniche, Alpi Giulie,... can't we just agree that it's the Alps we're talking about? I couldn't care less about in which group I can found de Mont Blanc and is it even fucking relevant? I'm seriously fucked. Oh hell, I'll just start talking about Campania regardless of what he asks :D.

Sweet Jesus, they want it that detailed? Not even the Italians know that... They just wanted to hear the States from me and I had more than enough trouble trying to remember "Friuli-Venezia-Giulia" or whatever it's called... And that other one "Alto Trento..." no hold on "Trento Aldi..." uhm... well you get the picture I'm sure.

Trentino Alto Adige :faq1:

What kind of names are that anyway? I like "Piemonte" though, nice and simple.

Piemonte sounds alright. Doesn't beat Calabria though, rolls off the tongue that one.

As for the Alps: I would leave it at that too. Also: I utterly despise the name of that other chain, the Appennini. Horrible. Even worse in Dutch. Apennijnen...

Yeah, that sounds like some kind of fruit you really don't want to eat.

What really sucks about this course is that it's so inconsistent. On the one hand I should know all about the Alps, but when asked about the climate, I should say "it's very cold in the mountains in the winter.". Seriously, who makes these things?

Probably written by someone from the North of Holland...

"So mountains get cold in winter? Hm... Interesting..."
