Totti couldn't rip anything apart, even if it was easy-opening. Am I the only one who realises that yesterday he did absolutely nothing? Oh and Toni, where exactly does he need the ball to be before he finds the goal? Inside the goal posts? 5 different attackers played in that game, and 50% of the goals (1) was score by a midfielder by a long shot. The remaining 50% was not because of our excellent team work, but simply because their defender is a retard. Imagine if Iaquinta HADN'T scored that goal.
Anyway, I'm not saying we won't beat USA, because I honestly think we will, but "ripping apart" is a tad exaggerated after yesterday's performance (at least in terms of offence), and if something isn't done about that, it could cost us further on in the tournament (assuming we do pass to the next round).
You're really saying Ton can't score? Did you even see him play yesterday? He's the reason Italy won the game FFS.

As for Totti, absolutely worhtless yesterday.

Why dont you guys grow up and stop making fun of the americans?
Because they:

a) Have some insane world domination idea
b) Consider American sports to be more important than football
c) Played an absolutely lousy game
d) Because they're just so damn obnoxious. They managed to turn the WC into some anti-terrorism agenda. By now we KNOW the US have their own special bus, thank you very much.

No, you're not allowed. Why? Because this is all you two ever do...you never show any sign of support for our national team, and you both have probably been waiting for this since four whole years now. All you ever manage to do is piss and moan about FIFA rankings, state how supposedly Canada has superior talents to that of our country, and always make it known you have trouble naming players from the MLS. I have never seen one post, not even ONE post, of yours that has any sort of compliments regarding the United States National team. You might be American, you might take part in American political discussions and support our troops, but you seem the least bit American when you discuss our soccer. You two talk as if you want us to lose.

This is why I don't want to hear it.
Well I don't care much for people like that offering their 'valued cricticism' either but there's Seven who doesn't seem to be able to shut up about how much he hates and thinks rubbish of the Dutch national team, and he ain't even Dutch in any way. :D

That's just how the world works...

:D. As far as I'm concerned they did suck against S&M anyway. Besides Robben that is. "Robben da pazzi"! One can only love watching him play like that. Sure h's selfish at times, but boy does he make up for it. I understand it's hard not to get jealous, Robin :D.

I hope Brasil do well tonight. I watched a documentary about them on NOS a couple of weeks ago, in which Robinho and Ronaldinho were just so damn nice.

The pressure on them is just enormous. No result but World Champion will be good enough for them.
However, they've got enough experience and talent to fill up the expectation.

If Ronaldo scores 2 goals, he will be the WC best goalscorer on par with Gerd Müller (14 goals).

Quick question: does anyone have a clue how I could get my hands on Italian books through the internet or some other source? I'd like to buy uno, nessuno e centomila by Pirandello, but in Italian this time. Erik, if you have other Italian books I should read let me know, because I want to practise a lot this summer.

There's a good bookshop in The Hague, they'll order anything if you ask but that's not really useful to you. My advice is check out some of the better bookshops where you live and just ask if they can order a particular book for you. Usually they can.

Recommendations:
  • "Il nome della rosa" - Umberto Eco (duh)
  • "Il gattopardo" - Giuseppe di Lampedusa (not for the faint hearted, takes some getting into)
  • "Io non ho paura" - Niccolò Ammaniti (I recommend this one, kind of a strange story but I liked it, it has meaning)
  • "Uno, nessuno e centomila" - Luigi Pirandello (released in 1926 by one of Italy's best authors. This novel is one of his best works)
  • "Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore" - Italo Calvino (this one is very strange but I love it)
  • "Arrivederci amore, ciao" - Massimo Carlotto (if you like thrillers, you'll love this one)

EDIT: I just remembered where I got some books myself once. You should check out www.ibs.it
I think I recall some difficulties about shipping and payment but I'm not sure :undecide: You'll have to check that out

only b and c are correct

choice "a" is an absolute joke

choice "d" has nothing to do with the players or US government, but rather the GERMANS, who are handling all of the security issues...including a team bus with no American flag or symbols

now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go help my country take over the world :D

Vin, you took the words right outta me pie hole. Calm down, Seven, there's no asshole like a raging zealot and you, sir, are a raging zealot.

It is not as if the USA is the first side to all flat on its face at the World Cup. Portuagl 2002 come to mind. Every Spain entry in history comes to mind. France 2002 . . . and the what the fuck has Belgium ever accomplished? I've heard that USA finished 3rd at WC 1930 or something, and I know that USA had their semifinal spot stolen from them in 2002 by the bought-n-paid for Koreferee.

Anyway, Forza Italia, ale ale.

Belgium was fourth in 1986 and qualified for numerous WC's. All in all we achieved far more than the US, which is odd, wouldn't you say so?

As for option a), come on, everyone knows America want to run the world. Let's not start acting retarded. I also wasn't raging, I merely summed up some facts. Oh btw, Belgium had a quarter final spot stolen from them in 2002 by Prendergast against Brazil ;).

Io non ho paura... didn't they make a film about that one?
Il nome della rosa seems a tad too difficult at the moment. It wasn't easy in Dutch either TBH. I'll check those books out though.

Also: I don't hate the US national team, the main reason I want to see them fail is because that way the Czech Republic and Italy go through.

I don't have a problem with other fans giving criticism if it's fair, however what I do not like is people of our own country bashing our team without restraint. We are criticized and pissed on from all angles in world football, and when our own supposed compatriots seemingly want us to lose that is what I cannot understand. It just does not make sense.

But you hate the USA, which it is your right to hate whomever you want. All I ask is that you hate the USA for legitimate reasons. No, world domination is not legitimate, that is coffe house revolutionary idealism but not reality.

Now, I rather like the USA, but there are things about it that I do hate. So, because I like you, I am offering you a valid reason to hate the USA (one that you will love):

"I hate the USA because . . . Americans think that September 11, 2001 gave carte blanche to all those fucking Christian freaks to come out of the shadows and parade their religion around."

And let us not be too critical of Francesco Totti. He did yesterday what he has done in every match in the blue shirt: Fucking nothing (except for take a shirt away from someone who might actually help). Totti can only play in the Roma system, and that is why he will be never be footballer of the year.

Oh? Yes, I started to watch that match, but 16 minutes of mind-numbing Belgian tactics and my brain slipped into a coma that lasted 4 months. Doctors have warned me to stay away from Belgium matches on the television.
