I wouldn't say having visited a few different nations is a prerequisite for being cultured, especially if you speak the same language as the other country in question. If you're really interested, you can receive a good deal of information simply by reading and watching various programs from other cultures if you know the language.

It's true that you receive a greater experiance by living within the culture you're studying. That's obvious. But what I'm saying is it's not a prerequisite to being cultured.
If you disagree with that, then it must be your opinion that the great historians and ancient civilization experts are not cultured in their own field because they didn't live within the Roman or Carthaginian Empires. I mean, come on here.

No, they aren't. That is the difference between intelligence and culture.
And I'm not saying it's a prerequisite, I'm saying it's better to live or travel around the world rather than Abe Lincoln it and read about the world in a cabin. Because no matter how much you read or study, the books go out of date the day they roll off the press. The world and cultures are living breathing things, you have to live in the moment, not study the past in order to be or become cultured.

I Beg to differ. You just posted the definition of cultured, which in reality is all about education. Nowhere does it state that you must be an accepted part a certain culture to be cultured in it. I wouldn't even call some Americans cultured in the United States, yet they live here.
Obviously that is the case, and I'm not disagreeing with you there. But there are some exceptions. I'm sure there is someone out there who has never travelled to North America, but knows more about the culture, history, achievements and so forth of the region than 99% of those that live here. Such a person is cultured by definition.
