Here's how I would approach it: (this is based on my knowledge that you have studied Italian and have been in Italy at more than one occasion)

I start by talking about my personal background (family, what I have studied, what I am studying, etc.), then I would mention my knowledge of Italian language and how the period of studying there would enrich it. I would add that the program of education in Bologna really what I need to accomplish my career in whatever I am majoring in. I would conclude in talking about interests in Italy (culture, food, football, etc.)

Before concluding, you can add a tie breaker on why to choose you among other applicants. Some people say this is selling one's self but I say it is highlighting our distinguished skills to make yourself seen.

Good luck with that.

(I'm on MSN if you want to discuss it further)
Andries: can you feign any interest in medical history? Bologna is a prime place for that.

To whom is this motivation directed to? If to Bologna, you've got a different audience to play up than, say, one in Belgium.

It's directed to the university of Antwerp. In theory they send it to Bologna, which is why I have to write it in English (I can't write it in Italian as the board here can't understand Italian). No need to feign interest in medical history, I actually am interested in that stuff.

Then do it up, bro.

Research a little medical history that Bologna uniquely has in its libraries, museums, and facilities. Make it sound like you're focused and know details (do your research!) -- and that missing out on the academic facilities that Bologna has to offer would shortchange your educational pursuits in this area. You have to convince them you're after something that Antwerp can't offer and only Bologna (not even Verona) can.

    READ THIS....

Found myself in Philly visiting relatives and after a few days of Philly Steak's .. a few pints and some home made knock your teeth out grappa I hadn't visited a washroom for three days. Constipation in its most wicked form had taken control...being a good boy and being off cigarettes for three months now I couldn't rely on old Joe Camel to help alleviate the burden and being addicted to the gym for quite a while now also made matters worse as I felt things bubbling in there during Spin Class.
Finally yesterday, in South Philly's Little Italy I had a morning espresso with some milk and instantly found myself running back home. After thirty minutes of cursing and sweating in my great aunt's 1950's vintage washroom I couldn't believe the massive amount of scuds I released...naturally this anecdotal moment had to be remembered so I rightfully christened the missles laying in the toilet "Mancini", "Moratti" and "Andy" .. and just as they arrived they left...in a flash ... with a flick of Zia Maria's ancient toilet lever Moratti, Mancini and Andy found themselves 'swimming with the fishes'...where they belonged :smoke:

My friends who smoke swear by the fact that cigarettes help them drop off the kids at the pool. Does it actually work?

I hope you sent their families a fish wrapped in a brown paper bag with a bulletproof vest.

Seven, you a smoker? I noticed that in Brussels they still think smoking is cool. It's like they didn't get the message. Kinda sad that Europe's capital is behind on the updates.

No, I'm not. I only smoked once, because I felt I had to try it, but I didn't like it. I have several friends who smoke and I have to say that they are definitely coughing more than non-smokers. And yes, people still smoke a lot in Belgium, which I don't like very much.

Does your brother smoke?? Say he did smoke and you didn't...then if someone offered you a smoke you could pass saying 'I don't smoke' but then turn around and say "but I smoke" the new "I" being your brother. And if the doctor asks "do you smoke" you could say "no" so you would be a good boy because its your brother that smokes but in reality its you...to quote Burke

    That would be sickness YO

I had the same question. I am guessing it is not a reference to the town in Hidalgo, Mexico. If it was some Spanish reference to Valencia, even in Italian, that should have been "paella".
Understand that Ultra's are like Andy in school "they mean well and try hard but they won't be spliting the atom anytime soon"
