I agree on many points there, but a striker who scores does his job. It's as simple as that.
I disagree. I think your position in football will get to know you more that a striker isn't only about finishing balls, thats why I'm not a big fan of Trezeguet but Henry or Sheva for example...They can create space for themselves and for their mates, the likes of Gila, Ruud, Trezeguet etc, all what they ask is for a done ball to kick it....and then they disappear leaving their job for the others.

also Del Piero was played out of position, behind the strikers. I only wish he would get one vlaid chance to proove what he's worth the way he can. Put him in the right position, at the right time, and if he fails, he fails. Enough with this beating around the bush.

read an interview with tierry henry a while back and he was talking about the difference between him and trez. henry said he loved the plaudits but if he scores a goal but puts in a bad performance, he is unhappy. trez on the other hand can play no part in any game and score a lucky goal of his backside and he will be happy to be on the scoresheet.
you can judge certain players on goals, pure strikers who put in little or no effort but are poachers, they are the sort you can put in this bracket. del peiro, henry, gilardino, rooney are all players who are supposed to contribute to overall play and set-up chances for others.
in the usa game gila did go to sleep after scoring, alex looked lively, but he will be on the bench once more against the czechs

Dude the days of pumping up Del Piero to NO end are OVER. Moggi pulled strings to get his players favorable headlines and calls up to the National but its over. Del Piero is such a non factor on the field that he is like added baggage....he doesn't support .. he doesn't feed and he desperately tries to score just to stop seeing visions of a horrible international career in his vision. I admire his loyalty and sportsmanship but he has never lived up to his name in international tournaments...all Del Piero fans have to think of is that goal against Mexico....
Since 96 we have been force fed this idea that he is the great Italian hope and he will lead Italia to great places...he didn't fail ..he never even tried. I am extremely sick of his special treatment...the same Juve fans that call for Vieri and Inzaghi to stay home have no problem saying Del Piero should be called. ANY OTHER PLAYER would never have gotten a FOURTH CHANCE like he has...Gilardino scores and Del Piero should start???

Wow...every four years..no matter what its the same story.

NONE of the strikers are impressing me one bit in this tournament, and that also goes for Totti

Besides Gila's goal, DP had about the best chance to score against the USA

its time for someone to step up, ala Paolo Rossi, and as much as I'd like to see DP be the man, I think it will be Pippo...

either way, I'll be happy

NICK, VINNI, SERGIO...anybody else....

Tickets for the Red Bull New York and Barcelona match that will be held at Giants Stadium on Saturday, August 12th, are now on sale.

Burke and I are going, and you lot should consider it.

Remember, I have inside connections for finding out where the players will be staying and actually finding them (think Chelsea - DC United).

How can you say he's an added baggage and doesn't support when he's not given the real chance since Trap took over??? Shall I remind you with the games he played as a starter since Trap took over...Lets see...

Italy probably wouldn't have been in the world-cup 2002 without Del Piero, check his Qualification games(goals) and then decide whether he's always been an added baggage....He never played as a starter during the WC02 only against Korea and thats less than 50min If my memory doesn't fail me...He came as a Subs against Mexico to save Italy with a header....But seems that you forgot to thank him...

Lets see...During the 04 Euro, does he take the blame also???? the answer is No.. Blame the Roman little King(Totti)...who put Italy in a real bad position when Trap was trying to construct and build a team around him and when people and fans were expecting him to shine...So please, again keep Del Piero out of this...

So far in Germany, he played 7min against Ghana and about 37min against USA, I don't know If we've watched the same game but he looked to me the most inform player alongside Pirlo and Cannavaro that day...Was very close and unlucky not to score that night...But guess what again, It's De Rossi who took the red card this time....Still Dp's fault eh???

Special Treatment??? What treatment FFS, talk about Totti and the rest, Del Piero deserved to be in this Squad in EVERY tournament my friend...yes EVERY...

Gilardino scored, yet his performance was bad....and I think you know alot about Football Nicola, Football isn't only about putting your name on the score sheet. But to do your Job well and not depend on your team-mates to deliver you the ball each time...Thats exactly what Gila did...He scored then went off to bed...

    Anyhow,
Enjoy our Juventino's Captain goal on thursday...:pint:

He has been given a chance since 98 and every year its the same story...wrong position..injury...not his year..give him a chance...
    KNOW YOUR STATS...
EVEN IF DEL PIERO didn't score that goal Italy would have gotten through because Ecuador came through so the Mexico goal was nothing more than a highlight video for his career or lack of it with Italy...
Qualifications?? Dino Baggio made us get through to WC 94 ... Del Piero was pumped as the next baggio..sorry but I expect more than a few good shots from someone who is assured a spot in the NT year after year...

If Moggi was not behind the scenes all these years I really doubt DP would even be at the WC ... God knows what kind of back room push and shove was done to guarantee his spot on the NT tournament after tournament despite contributing less than Nicola Berti in 94
