Be happy, atleast they wont have to stand and hold those flowers that look like they've been taken of a grave and wear that head thing that just looks gay and is embarassing.

I dont think the refereeing was that bad at all. Besides, had all those decisions went your way Argentina would have won anyway. They were just too good, completely superior.

Argentina was much wiser in bringing big players rather than filling in the holes...with the exception of Pirlo the other two selections were a waste.
Nesta and Totti or Nesta and Zambrotta along with Pirlo would have made the game equal footing. Gentile screwed up that one.
Actually the officiating was horrendous as it always is for Italy...but of course we are also whiners.

Actually they will be playing for the bronze medal..so they might be wearing the crowns.

P.S. Are you the new "EMMA MAC" of this board?

You're probably right about the players part. Ayala for example is a very experienced player, perfect to pair up in defence with two younger players. gentile shouldnt have brought Ferrari, Nesta or cannavaro would have been better, or maybe even Maldini would have accepted to play. But Argentina have much better U-23 players, can you compare Saviola or Tevez with Sculli, for example?

Quantity wise yes they have more "experienced" youngsters but I think Gilardino ranks up there as does Bonera.

Riv, players can only represent one National Association on the international level. So, If a player has represented Scotland, for example, he cannot represent Great Britain or anybody else. Besides that, there is no GB Association in existance.

Yeah but i mean for the olympics. For the olympics its an all British team rather than single. Im wondering why we dont put a Team GB in the Olympic soccer tournament.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland football team, we could pick up a medal :D

Frankly I don't care much for Italy's elimination in the Olympic tournament. I don't think they really belong there anyway, as their being overpaid professionals is in dire contrast with the Olympic spirit. A testament to this is the fact that all the other non-professional Italian athletes hate them, so much that the footballers don't even sleep at the Olympic village. The Olympics are the only chance for our bowmen, fencers and rowers to get their 5 minutes of glory, after which they will all go back to their ordinary lives where they will resume their ordinary jobs for ordinary wages. So let them be in the limelight for two weeks, as there will be plenty of time afterwards (4 years) to talk about Recoba's right foot and Vieri's latest adventure with a soubrette (stupid wanker almost ran over me in Appiano Gentile two weeks ago)

I really disagree..despite the result it was clear that these youngsters were MUCH more hungry to win than their PROFESSIONAL counter-parts who blamed their socks and shoes for losses and resorted to classy gestures like spitting. Also considering they are the EUROPEAN champions (under Gentile) I it was a MAJOR disappointment.
Considering that once upon a time all the talk of the Olympics was the U.S. Basketball DREAM TEAM (Barcellona 92) and in the Winter Olympics by far the most exciting tournament was the Men's Hockey I think both professionals and so-called amateurs (the Italian under 23 team) add a bit of excitement that ping pong and air pistol do not despite one's patriotism. The olympic games were about the 100 meters...the swimming competitions and the other track events that still garner up big names. These Johnny come lately events which are an attempt to not leave anyone feeling "unwanted" is not what the games is about. Silly me I thought it was about being the world's best in sports and not in leisure activities.
