Okay, but how many people write for a living and thus possibly want to relax on a forum?
Fair point, but in my case... about 90% of the people i know...

But its not only those that write for a living... that was jus an example..

In my experience.. many people on forums in their own language.. tend to write in a more relaxed manner... especially with the use of slang and the like...

When you say "in a relax manner", do you think that just means "don't bother" getting it right or does it mean "some rules still apply"? Sure, I can write slang, but I still try to get the grammar right and it annoys me when I notice I messed up. And I can be very loose with punctuation, that doesn't bother me, but incorrect grammar irks me.

depends on the person... some jus dont care whether its right in any way, some like the grammar to be correct, some only care about spelling...

To be honest, in my case im not immediately bothered by any of it... as long as i get my point across... eg. the way i jus typed out that response without even looking at it... before later realising that i had spelt something wrong...

Though I will, as in that case often edit a spelling later... Because my laziness does irk me at times.

For me it depends what you are involved in at the time.. eg. if its in this thread, who cares.. If its in a debate then my replies tend to be in the most part correct...

If you need to get something across, then it needs to be right, if jus general conversation... what does it matter ?

Point taken.

Let me ask you on a different note, do you enjoy refuting things I say and often state pretty much as fact because I believe them and making me look silly (rightfully so)? Is this a pattern I'm seeing?

lol... never thought about it, to be honest.

Feeling insecure at the moment, martin ?
I like the feeling of finding some kind of truth about a certain subject, which is a gross oversimplification. At times, I get away with convincing people that it's so, sometimes they won't accept it. <another one> But there really is very little one can say about any given subject without being wrong or incomplete, and 'completing' that observation would take close to infinite time and effort. </another one>

So it's nice to be able to say simple things about something in just a few sentences and be right.

Strange, it seemed to me that they had repeatedly claimed said Italianity. That's hardly the point anyway : if they want to think they're Italian, then who am I to object? Be what you want to be, as long as you're happy. What I can't accept is them ganging up on a confused and defenceless guy like Gino for his mistakes, when they themselves have proven to have a very limited knowledge of Italian and Italy as a whole. It's hypocritical, vile and cowardly.

Want names? Vinman. This guy keeps mocking Gino's mistakes yet he once had the following sentence in his signature, and for quite some time too : "sono pazzesco circa Juve". Translation : "I am insane more or less Juve". In my and I think most ppl's book, that sounds slightly more ridiculous than "il mio bello Italia" or whatever. Yet does he get pointed and laughed at for it? Of course not. Even more than that : he goes on Xtra time slagging off some other unlucky kid by accusing him of having used an automatic translator to pick up an Italian nickname, this when his own signature smells more of automatic translation than a whistled foul on Puyol in a CL semi stinks of simulation. And I won't even go into his irremediable ignorance of the Italian historical, social, political and economic context, although that statement I saw him make months back about Italian communists being worse than fascists still gives me the shivers to this day.

More examples? You just need to ask.
I never claimed to be proficient in Italian, and I dare you to find exactly where I ever said I was. I really didnt grow up with the language, my parents were both born in the USA, and both sets of grandparents mainly spoke english to me

I pick on Gino for saying that he would punch his father in the face if he ever tried to stop him from using marijuana...but I guess your commie-ass would agree with that, because I forgot that communists have no family values

the signature I use on xtratime regarding Lucarelli's chance at the Italian NT is actually from a Drughi banner that was at the Juve- Livorno game earlier this season, AND I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS !!

didnt you leave the forum ?? what are you still doing here ??

dont you have a Lucarelli fan club meeting to go to ??

I think I know what's the case with Gino: obviously he's from Italian descent, yet he never took the trouble of learning the language, so he's talking with the few words he did pick up. Obviously that isn't going to make him able to speak Italian, but I guess he could get his message across.

I suppose it's the same thing I used to do. We visited Italy a lot, always have, so it feels like a second home. Yet going there for a couple of weeks a year won't enable you to speak Italian properly. Now that I'm actually studying it, I'm vastly improving, but no need to mock those who don't speak it properly just yet.

As for Vinman, he simply doesn't grasp the concept of Europe. If I were you I wouldn't pay him too much attention, because the guy's actually convinced the USA saved us in WWII.

For the sake of fellow posters I'm going to switch to English:

LIbero in what I consider a shot at many Italian-Americans here and the above statement IMPLICITLY being directed my way stated that a member once spelled canoli with one N despite claming Sicilian ancestry. IN fact, I have written both Cannoli and Canoli...it is common in the U.S. to spell it with one N and many recipes in English continue to spell it with one N...but I explained that having grown up with Italian parents and hearing 3 different dialects at home and English at school it is quite normal that slip ups like these occur or that influences (English language) occur...FFS in Italy there are more and more English words such as "Pullman" "Mister" and endless others...

Anyhow on to the other point. I grew up hearing parents (both Italian immigrants) speaking Italian at home...listening to Italian music, eating Italian food and living by an Italian mentality .... MANY non-Italians in schools pointed out how much of an Italian I highlighting the differences in my family and the average American...it is only normal that one begins to feel very Italian as later one realizes they have much in common with their fellow Italian-American....

Its funny because when I came to Italy for the first time as a kid a few locals in my grandmothers town in the Tuscany region mocked my Italian stating "you are a terron from America" (insult implying I work on the land, etc.) I started talking to them in English to which they looked at me oddly so I continued "I speak 3 languages...you speak one...who is the real "cafone" in all this??"

I notice that Italians from the North maintain this pompous arrogant attitude where they look at Italians abroad as an extension of those in the South..farmers who left and at this point are 'nouveau riche' with backgrounds etched in 'dirt'. THey barely consider people from the South of Le Marche Italian imagine what they think about those who left...living here for quite a while I have concluded that it is their way of assuring themselves that despite the wealth and success of people like Rudy Giuliani, Antonin Scalia, Mario Cuomo, Anthony Fauchi and company at the end of the day they are still "terrons" from places like Campagna, Calabria, Sicily, etc. I guess it allows certain people to convince themselves that despite others Italians being more successful than they are at the end a leopard is a leopard no matter what color its stripes...it is their way to convince themselves that they are still the blue blood of Italy.

Another point most of these Italians probably don't realize,
Italians in Italy live and work with their own...Italians in places like Australia and America have put up with racial slants, stereotypes and generalizations Italy's Italians only see in the movies...we have had to defend our background and nation..a NATION that in many cases forced our ancestors to leave because of poverty, etc. despite the 'motherland' leaving our parents, grandparents, etc with no choice but to leave we continue to defend the nation, we continue to try to educate people and dispell stereotypes...we defend Italy more than most Italians in Italy ever will and for this we are labeled the furthest thing from Italians....for this we are laughed at because of grammar errors, because of being influenced by the local language in the spelling of an Italian pastry....
How many Italians in Italy have been called mobsters because their family may have attained a certain level of success.
How many Italians in Italy have EVER heard the word WOP, DAGO, Greaseball or GUIDO utttered their way...
How many Italians in Italy have had their car scratched because they had an Italian symbol on the car??
How many Italians in Italy have had countless school yard fights because they felt they had to defend their background and nationality??

When you have...let me know then maybe you will understand why calling someone like Vince and myself (and the rest) the furthest thign from an Italian is the biggest SLAP in the face in the world...

    Good Day

On a side note: Gino Genesio's general posts irk many people because they are pointless and not much thought goes into them....when he proclaims that he is the ultimate Italian this bugs many people considering the crap he has shot out before..its only normal we will find reasons to laugh and attack him..rightfully so..

Though I shouldn't be giving you rhetorical tips as my English isn't great, here's one for you: the number of exclamation marks you use does not make what you more true. I know you've been trying the opposite for some time now, but I'd like you to write like anyone else, because you're a waste of space. It also hurts the eyes.

    Thank you.

Personally, I'm not sure why Kaiser Franco is giving people a lecture on respect, because, afterall, he essentially insulted billions of people throughout the world with one intolerant post.

As for Gino, he goes around talking nonsense to other members half the time and rarely makes a useful post. And correct me if I'm wrong, however isn't he from Holland? He has attacked me personally several times, so I have no problem with people making fun of his intelligence or ridiculing his imitating clown act.
