It's pure tragedy for Capello though. Whatever he might try, he's going to lose his personal battle with Del Piero. He tried to show Juve could do without him, he failed. He tried to show Del Piero should only be considered second string, he failed. He tried to diminish Del Piero's "power" inside Juventus, he failed.
That is quite a far fetched theory...In fact, apart from this season Del Piero has lacked consistency and confidence as well as form. Capello has young attackers at his disposal and it is quite normal to try to give them big game experience rather than an off again on again player who constantly struggles to keep form and consistency. Capello is a good observer and knows that for Del Piero on a starting line it takes patience...he probably figured this new strategy where NO ONE is guaranteed a spot on the team will 'ignite' the fire better than just starting him game after game and allowing him to slowly flourish while having an extra man they can do without. Del Piero has not played this well in Lippi's second tenure as Juve coach so in all fairness to Capello he did something right.

You fail to see the point. Zlatan IS GUARANTEED a starting place. So your hypothesis gets destroyed from the first instant, since just as Del Piero, Zlatan's fire needs to be ignited as well.
