There apparently is a stigma associated with it in south Asian cultures according to my friend (she's Bengali), so I'm going to give this woman the benefit of the doubt and assume she's talking about that being as she also looks to be a descendant from that region. I agree, as in I find it a bit weird that they couldn't run away from him and save his daughter at that time. They weren't at a pool or a restircted area. They were at the beach FFS. Plus the adrenaline rush for someone like them would have been huge not to act in a situation like that.
