That's just a bunch of hipsters wanting to play army.

The real psychological profile here is the person who sees themselves as incapable of making any (fatal) mistakes or errors in judgement themselves, and that even if they did ... the chances of killing 10 of their loved ones accidentally is worth the "freedom" of a chance of killing off one bad guy robbing a gas station.

It's absurd math, but this is how a lot of people believe and think here.

What people believe and think is right way to put it.

In general just seriously baffled by the national mindset of constant fear, righteous and surreal clinging to the right to shoot eachother. Its self-perpuating mentality of mayhem disguised as psuedo safety. Seems to be ingrained to the very fabric of being american, you can give therapy to an individual to deal with such issue, but how do you deal with a notion that is grown and twisted from the very birth of the country.

I'm not so sure it's a mindset of constant fear here in the U.S., though that certainly exists. In a place like South Africa, you realize what constant fear really means. The U.S. pumps the fear, but the reality is that it's generally a pretty safe place in most circumstances.

More to the point I think is the American individualist hero mindset... the idea that anybody can and should be their own police force; the star in their own Hollywood movie fighting the bad guys for justice. It's rooted in a sense of individual liberty and empowerment against others that, in many cases, they'd rather not live next to.

I again don't think that's so much fear as much as the illusion of control and independence that's the real driver in the U.S. mentality towards gun ownership, etc. The common media here perpetuate fear to a level that has essentially destroyed American childhood... although I am encouraged of movements like "free-range children" (no, they literally call it that) that have started to fight back against cultural paranoia.

Fear sells news, and we're saturated in that. But people here were enthralled with weaponizing themselves long before they worried about their children being abducted on every street corner.

My family is from Detroit. My uncle's house was burned down by a bunch of clowns. The police responded a few hours later. Trust me, if you live in Detroit, you should carry. No question. The government will not save you.

The constant fear is perpetuated by the government and media. Trust me, nobody who has a solid grasp on life and isn't brainwashed by a certain political party lives in everyday fear. New Yorkers have been brainwashed to throw away individual rights just because of 9/11, the pathetic city of Boston conducted raids on houses without warrants because some kid set off a pressure cooker killing three people, et cetera. At the end of the day, you have a far greater chance of dying from a car crash or even a bee sting.

Some will claim it's the gun owners that are scared of some unforeseen event, but they are certainly not the ones propagating the fear complex. They sleep soundly at night, I'm sure. It's the freaks who think we have a legitimate government, believing everything the Republicans and Democrats say, that have serious mental issues.
