There's a certain forced comedy that doesn't work for me based on the notion of small-town players and their petty problems trying to be big-pants/big-city movers and shakers. And that's where Parks & Rec fails for me. I don't think that vein of jokes is funny at all.
This.
"Look at these petty, unimportant people acting like they're big shots. Heeelarious." Not really a funny premise in my book. You have to work harder than that.
So all these years you've been lying about the midget porn?
Midget trannies punch up, not down.
Parks & Rec and Schitt’s Creek were both in small towns and hilarious.
Ahhh... yes. Schitt's Creek. I don't get the exponential rise of plaudits laid over it the past couple seasons while it was outright ignored, if not deliberately, it's first 3-4 seasons as something irrelevant.
And given Catherine O'Hara's role in
Guffman, it's full circle for me. Can't really touch it for those same punching down reasons.
if you’d ever spent time in the public meetings of Montgomery county, Maryland you’d find parks and rec both hysterical and relatable.
I only spent time in Monkey County, Maryland traffic court. That was enough for me.
