Because Grosso is a national hero in Italy for what he did last World Cup, and Delpie made a bunch of bad passes and wasn't anything on the pitch but an empty spot.
Hahah Grosso is a national hero ...Del Piero is a living legend of Italian football.(In 20 years) the guy did more for Italian football than almost any other player did.
If someone is Italian and if he is booing Del Piero he is definitely a disrespectful human being.

How come Deneb, Del Piero played more WCs and Euros than Grosso , Del Piero was leading a team in almost every qualification, Del Piero have played so many games for the Azzurri 91 precisely while scoring 27 goals, he was a single step from being European champion, he was present in a top Italian football for more than 15 years, he won almost everything in his career, he definitely had some positive influence and who knows how many young players regarded him as an idol. And yes he scored a penalty kick in the final of WC and he scored a goal against Germans (although it was decided already). He gave his contribution , and it would be unfair to say that Grosso did more than Del Piero for the Azzurri.

maybe we re talking about 2 different things, i was strictly referring to the italian national team where dp was always disappointing(even costing italy that fateful euro final you mentioned). Grosso on the other hand was italy's hero in 2006.

Jersey people are freaking retarded. They cheer for Grosso and not for DP because he's got more grease in his hair. Those idiots standing by the gate waiting for the players started screaming at Manninger in Italian until someone pointed out "oh he won't understand you, he's Austrian...Anybody speak Austrian here?".

But Deneb there's no reason for booing Del Piero while considering Grosso as a national hero at the same time (simply because he did shine at the WC), we started from that, but yes he really shined at the WC without doubt.

Is any of this a surprise?

There is always as percentage of idiots among any group of fans, as can be seen every day on this forum.
