True, but if a mod spoke the language of the thread it could be controlled.
But then you would have to discriminate against people by saying they cant have a thread in their own language because a mod doesnt speak it... but yours is ok because a mod does... Not exactly fair... its not a group of peoples fault that none of the mods speak their particular language...

Yeah after I posted my previous comment I thought about that, if there isnt a mod that speaks that language someone could be appointed as responsible for the thread, and even the members could report any bad situation to the mods

Problem with that is that in the most part these threads were only frequented by a handfulk of people each... as such they became very friendly in the most part (possibly why the insults started) and as such are unlikely to highlight it to the mods...

Possible if there was a respected member that speaks said language but does not post in that thread or is not found to be friendly with those people... very messy and hard to find...

Dont play the fool andy... it doesnt suit you... As is clear as day in what i wrote this has absolutely nothing what so ever to do with free speach...

Anyone that was here when these language threads were rife... knows full well the ywere very messy...

Then to your supposed "free speach" issue... People insulted other members within these threads...
What has that got to do with free speach... if they wanted to insult people or say controversial things they should have done in a language everyone understands in the open...

But no, they hid in a corner insulting people without them even knowing under the cover of a thread they knew those they commented on would not read or understand... Thats jus cowardly... has no connection to free speach at all, as you well know

Anyway... those threads caused various problems and resentment and as such imo should not return.... which is all i said

I was here during the time of language threads, and indeed I took part in the Espanol thread. I am not familiar with people insulting other members in different languages in the aforementioned areas because in the Spanish thread I saw nothing of the sort; just different topics being dicussed in a language other than English. Nobody used the place to hide insults towards other members as far as I know, and I was there to continue learning and practicising the aforementioned language. I don't EVER recall a situation where people were insulted in the Spanish thread...perhaps you could direct me to what you're talking about.

And about the free speech thing...I think writing in other languages should be allowed because it indeed follows "free speech" principles, and even if there are insults why does it matter what language they are in? Insults are insults, however like I said I don't recall anything of the sort. People talk in different languages all the time in other normal threads...Arabic, Russian, Croat, Serbian; I don't see a problem with having a thread dedicated towards a specific language.

Actually the reopening of other language threads came up to my mind a few days ago when I browsed through the spanish thread. I read aprox 30 pages and I didnt find any insults towards other members, and even non spanish speaking forum members talked there. Just like the italian thread (which I liked because I could practise italian and it was useful to post Juventus news in italian without being translated) the spanish thread was perfect to practise the language and post news in spanish about spanish and south american football and players. I liked the atmosphere in that thread and those kind of threads are useful for people who dont speak english very well. I also think that theres more resentment and problems in any given Hangout/Offtopic thread than in those.

Cheers for Armstrong winning the Tour de France :)

Marty, I've been asking you for something and you aren't replying. Will you promise us there won't be image signatures.

I'm also against that. Image signatures are annoying as hell and it makes you scroll a lot to read through the posts.

I dont think image signtures are a bad idea, just their should be an option to not view them, for those with slower connections and a limit to their size

The thing is, I am afraid Marty is going to use them because he's been avoiding answering this question, for the third time now.

ture, but it would jus be added hassle for both Marty and the user to do so, wouldnt it be easier not to have it at all??

Wouldnt u prefer not to have millions of DP/Gigi banner all over the place.

I certainly dont wanna see any romanista banners anyway :D
