Why? It's indeed a smart choice. With this new Serbian generations he will play in the World Cups anyway, plus he'll play at the EUROs. In the qualifiers he won't need to travel much and he'll get to play against strong European teams instead of travelling thousands of kms to play against some Caribbean islands.

And if he's emotianlly attached to Serbia more, then his choice is even more logical.
You forgot the biggest factor. Imagine both teams pass the WC group stages and are preparing for the 1/16 final against some world class team:

With the USA, he'd have to wake up at sunrise, work hard, do high level physically intensive preparation, go through the tactics over and over again, everything to get into top form and take this once in 4 years and to be able to put in a heroic effort for the proud people of the USA.

With Serbia, they'd just go to a strip club.

He was born in Yugoslavia and lived here until he was 6. Then from the age of 6 tillthe age of 11 he lived in Germany and from the age of 11 till the age of 18 he lived in the USA. In the last 2 years he again lives in Germany.
He lived 6 years in Yugoslavia, 7 in USA and 7 in Germany.

I don't see why would Andy be mad that Subotic didn't choose the US.
You have some of it in this thread http://www.juventuz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16934&page=40 :p

    Bah, you know Andy.
Subotic would have been a much better player today if he didn't waste 7 years training in such an inferior country (football-wise). I mean, what can those coaches there teach him?

    Juventus target Subotic

    Monday 30 March, 2009

Juventus are being linked with a move for Neven Subotic, the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund centre-back.

The Bianconeri have been scouring the Bundesliga for talent in recent months and are prepared to make Subotic their latest import from Germany.

Juventus recently signed Sami Khedira and Serdar Tasci from Stuttgart and are also monitoring Werder Bremen trequartista Diego.

Subotic has impressed the Bianconeri's scouting staff with his height and goalscoring ability in this his first season for Dortmund.

He has scored five goals for Die Borussen and made his debut for Serbia on Saturday against Romania.

Subotic, who grew up in the United States of America, is reportedly worth £10m, but an offer of £8m would apparently be enough to tempt Dortmund into selling him.

Juventus face significant competition for his signature, though, as Liverpool, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Roma are also on his tail.

he played a hell of a game with romania...only praises for this one
Indeed, but i have the feeling that Piturca also had a role in this.
Serbia's defensive efficiency was magnified by the collective effort, the individual brilliance of a world class defender, Romania's inability to create smth concrete, numerical and physical superiority. And yet, they still conceded 2 goals.

Therefore i think that when he will be called to make the difference by himself against the most competitive team, he might be proved...less impressive...
At his age, i would welcome him as decent back solution, but we are full of them and we are going to add one more (Criscito). He would made a fine addition if we had less of them, but what we need now in an upgrade!
Although Subotic is even younger than Criscito, his impressive stature (he is one head taller than Criscito) gives him an advantage we could put in use.
However i think that he would rather fit in the EPL or in the German league as a perfect fit!

B/c of his height? or what makes him less apt for the Serie A? (just wondering) He must be fast or quick on his feet for the EPL right?

The EPL has a habit of abusing crosses and air game in general, the increased height and physical presence is a bonus that counts twice for a CB because of this. IMO they excel at this field of action!
As Serbia proved over Romania, this superior height gives a solid advantage in some cases, esp at set pieces.
I dont mean to say that the Italian teams dont need that, but in the EPl they would make the optimal use of this advantage.
Capello's Juve was also compatible with this model.

Good points. On the flip side I think his size would also be of use to us as well since Serie A is a more physical game. It might not be as fast as Spain or EPL but it is more physical IMO. Everyone seems to worry about Criscito's size affecting his defensive play (which I am not really one of those) BUT, if you look at Chiellini and how often his size works to his advantage in times such as 1v1s or crosses I think a partner for him in the middle of equal physique (or close) would be splendid. Especially with the general weakness in defensive capabilities of our outside backs, teams like to try and attack us on the wings rather than try and out muscle Chiellini, Poulsen, Marchisio or Sissoko in the middle. So unless we strengthen our RB area IMO someone of a generally large physique would be more reassurance for our CBs to partner Chiellini in the middle.
