Im glad to know youre having a good time in The Netherlands Martin!!! Do you get to see Erik often?
Erik lives a 40min train ride away, a few weeks ago we spent the day at Ikea shopping for a new chair for my new apartment.

Yeah, I needed to consult the dictionary for that
It was the longest sentence I was able to put together still being fairly sure that it's correct, if that's not enough for you, I don't know what it is.. :D

    u guys got weed ? :D
Who, me? When I first got here I lived in a house that was right down town, there were two coffee shops on the same block, I would go past them on the way to the supermarket. Those places aren't very well lit, you don't see too clearly what's on the inside but there would be doped up people walking out every so often.

It may also interest you that prostitution is legal here.

Marts, always thought you'll end up being an actor, once you're done with University.
    The what?

Well I'm not done yet, so I suppose it could still happen. No idea what makes you think that, though.

Yeah, I visit Holland regularly, as my wife still lives there (working on her Phd.) Hell, I'd be a citizen by now, if I had the time to learn Dutch.

You mean 'what the'? Yea, it could still happen since you've got another couple of years to make your mind up. Don't know what makes me think it, maybe the impressionable mind.

Nice thread Martin. Even the people here a long time will have largely lost track of what everyone's doing.

    Residence: Dublin, since 1983.

Occupation: Student at University College Dublin, seven months into a 3-4 year PhD program.

I sooo love the perception of the Dutch that foreigners have :D
hmmm I dunno. I always thought that Netherlands is THE Heaven when life's fucked up or vice versa when life's just never better, you go to Amsterdam and forget everything.

I seriously plan to visit there :)

PS oh yeaaaah Amsterdam is what I need now, my damned dreams got so distant now...

ANyways, cheers to all Dutch people :)

The thing is I can't act. I don't know how to be phoney and if I try, I don't enjoy it. So how someone like that could become an actor is beyond me. I don't enjoy pretending to be something I'm not.

Ah. When you come here, where do you stay?

People I know that have lived in Haag tell me that the only cooking dutch people know is sandwiches - with gouda cheese and ham, nothing else. One of the guys in my friends class even got scurvy after living on only this type of sandwich for like two months.
I know you aren't all that bad but how bad (or good) is the dutch food.
It would be interesting to hear Erik's view on this now after his time in Italy.

Right now though you're pretending to be more formal than you otherwise are. :p
