As for Harvard, taxing them means taxing all private universities, and perhaps other non-profits. There’s no shortage of applicants for Harvard, so the cost will be passed to the students.

Thats the thing. Private universities should not be exempt from taxes imho. I have never been a fan of private universities and I'm glad that diploma from public universities around here holds a value so kids can get a good chance at higher level of education regardless of their background. I think education and healthcare need to be free and not only available to privilleged few. But I'm socialist European so there is that...
