I don't see any source that says this was some Russian provocation; the ship isn't even Russian. Why would Russians even want to directly provoke Americans? Makes no sense whatsoever.

dunno man, abstract might be right. susko isn't usually full of shit but this looks like an overreaction indeed. they still say that most of the crew is russian, and with them you never know. they already damaged multiple underwater optical cables under the baltic sea and those ships weren't necessarily flagged russian (i remember one chinese ship)

I don't see why they would. Canada is incredibly vast and has recources everywhere. Their population would presumably enter a guerilla warfare and would no doubt be backed by almost the entirety of Europe. Not to mention that it seems likely that the majority of the US population would actually support the Canadians. This would be a war the US cannot win.

I get what you’re saying but I don’t know if the general population of Canada is in a state to fight guerilla warfare. Unfortunately I believe USA would be able to conquer them pretty easily. I only hope the military has enough people with sense in it that they do not go for it blindly because trump said so.

btw he uses a pretty similar rhetoric by describing borders as "artificial lines" that putin used before invading ukraine. so there's that too

The thing is occupations don't just last a few weeks to a few months. Perhaps Canadians are not ready to fight and they would be overrun. But if they are occupied, they will start to build a resistance. It's just such a vast country, if you're an occupying force. Also take into account that Canadians would receive a hell of a lot of support from outside.

Afghanistan is interesting, because it also has roughly 40 million inhabitants just like Canada and the US never had anything anywhere near control over the territory.
