Keep in mind I do support cutting government spending in certain areas, we have to.

But the last fucking person on the planet I want running the "analysis" of what to cut is a rent seeking, South African weirdo phaggot who circles jerks Putin every so often.
Responsible government spending and cutting bureaucratic bloat is always to be applauded.

Cutting all social programs to give the billionaire class a massive tax break really isn’t it.

The biggest issue with tariffs is probably that they can work to reinvigorate your own economy as long as you have local alternatives.

But frankly that's not how the world makes stuff these days. We build things all over the world, we even bring in produce from all over the world. Because it's more efficient that way.

In a way it's an interesting experiment. Let's see what people do when they can't afford iPhones made in Asia.

Definitely, this is also assuming that some other segment(s) of the economy can handle whatever retaliatory tariffs that will obviously be created.

Obviously, we should have a healthy manufacturing sector in this country of course, but I think this will just do far more harm than good. And then any good that does come will take years. Just a thought I had, but I feel that some sort of additional tax on company profits for heavy importers rather than increasing input prices would have a similar effect but also leave prices lower. I also think we should be taxing companies that outsource white collar jobs at a higher rate as well, but that's another story.

It’s been a while since @Nomuken went surfing. Should we call the coast guard? I’m a little worried for him.
Im hoping he didn’t tie the leash around his neck. You’re supposed to have the Velcro on the ankle. I know it’s difficult to understand because the body parts look sort of similar, maybe. Hopefully he’s OK.

I don’t know where in Cali he is, but there’s a fuck ton of great whites off the North coast. They don’t call Bodega Bay to Big Sur the red triangle for no reason.

Back around 2010, I remember a friend and I drinking champagne on a beach one evening near Trinidad in NorCal and then heading out for a drunken full moon surf… found out a couple days later in a surf shop that multiple great white attacks had happened around that area over the years. Scary as shit.

That’s wild. I’d never ever go out at night, even on the East coast.

Before I destroyed my knee I would surf all the time at night here off Vancouver Island, but we have never had a great white spotting in the area and no other dangerous sharks here either. Would never think of doing it in Cali or Oregon again. It’s not so bad being in shark prone areas if you’re in a busy spot with a lot of other surfers. When it’s just one or two of you, it’s pretty terrifying. If a shark shows up, you are the only target.

Oregon has sharks? I just know the coast here is really rough so it’s not the best for surfing in most places.

Yeah. A shit ton of sharks.

https://www.oregonlive.com/living/2016/01/11_encounters_with_sharks_on_t.html

You live in Oregon? That’s dope. I used to drive down the coast all the time to surf in Oregon. So many good spots. Seaside is amazing. The spots around Cannon Beach/Haystack Rock/Ecola State (3 shark attacks there over the years which is fucked up). Cape Lookout has an amazing point break on its south side. Pacific City. And then the Port Orford area, especially Rainbow Rocks is so good.

And for big wave surfers, Nelscott Reef has world class big waves offshore from Lincoln City. But those sort of waves are scary.

Apologies if this has already been raised in this thread - just chipping in with my 2 cents.

I don't live in the US, I'm not into US politics at all despite the Australian news channels ramping up their coverage in recent years. News is basically pure entertainment these days, so no surprise there.

My one takeaway is: The Democrats messaging wasn't clear enough and Kamala Harris was a terrible candidate.

I listened to some of her interviews and I had a really hard time understanding what her campaign was about, besides not being Trump. She also failed to put some distance between her and Biden.

All in all I don't think I missed anything by not paying much attention to this whole circus.

I'm not surprised at all that Trump won - I called this months ago (see below). It's the economy, stupid!

I don't follow US politics and I don't support either party, but just from reading the room, there's no way Trump is losing the election at this point.

He is a fucking meme after the assassination attempt. People are desperate with the cost of living crisis, not rational, and want to watch the world burn.

I'm willing to take bets.

I still can't believe kamala thought this was a good idea  deserved to lose just for this
I think, if we don't take into account she was up against Trump, the Democrats really did deserve to lose.

He probably read a few of our comments on tariffs and it finally clicked for him.

Dude is worried as hell.

people in Italy were crying when Meloni won but nothing happened and we're still alive and well or well not worse than in the recent past
Yeah, but you're used to new clowns in the circus show that is Italian politics. Unlike the U.S., nobody has ever held up Italy as a role model for democratic institutions and leadership.

Just sayin'... your standards are way different.

Logic isn’t the strong suit of a MAGAt. They just wanna see liberal tears and that’s about it. Well guess what cocksuckers, the feeling is mutual.
Ron DeSantis is the best at this though. They guy has no original ideas in his head other than to react with the opposite what some drag queen might want.

It's one thing to have an internal compass and reject lunatics. It's another entirely to start every morning thinking "What would Dylan Mulvaney do?" And then figure out how you'd make it your public raison d'être to claim this is an epidemic problem and you have a plan to save Florida by doing the opposite.

Well, yes.

But that's what they said they'd do and people voted for him. So this is what the American people want.

Can't wait for Musk to save money by eliminating the IRS and replacing it with overseas accountants in Nigeria. American budget and tax returns go brrrr.

Clearly he did not get the Coast-Cal-Guard for poor people that provide much better service for free.

Oregon has tons of seals. It thus has tons of sharks.

I still can't believe kamala thought this was a good idea  deserved to lose just for this

As much as I make fun of Trump's campaign for highlighting some of the most marginalized carnival acts cosplaying celebrities, Kamala putting on a celebrity show like she's organizing an Ambani wedding was only going to alienate the working class voters she could have ever hoped to court.

That said, I'm not sure all the inbred wypipo who don't know who Megan Thee Stallion were the intended target ... anymore than Bud Light's Dylan Mulvaney ads were targeting them.

Yes, it's a bit lame for black people to receive, "Dazzle them with entertainment and maybe they won't ask questions." But too many snowflakes get worked up thinking every form of entertainment or every piece of media has to be about them, and they are offended when it isn't targeted to them.

Broke and otherwise homeless people give some so much pleasure to want to torture. I don't get it. It's up there with the dark web sadistic monkey torture people in my book. Or the dark web J-torture of people smothering kittens to death with their feet.

I'd get off a lot more on putting Miley Cyrus in a cage and sending her to the gas chambers. Because then at least she did things to deserved it.
