The best deal for him is in Trump’s hands though. So he’ll probably continue to shut up.
Depends. Its an interesting situation because Trump can't really pardon his partner in crime coming into an election with corruption such a center point, plus if I were in his position I wouldn't at all trust someone like Trump to come back for me, when its inconvenient for him, unless I was certain i had a gun to his head.

Trump is untrustworthy and a different route might offer more assurances.

If one thing this impeachment thing taught us is that it is strictly a political process. None of Trump supporters really care, and since his fate lies in the hands of elected officials and not judges they won't remove him no matter what he does. Also, he can pardon him even if he loses the election.
