I just don't understand how any system can inflict so much punishment on its own citizens. And why aren't there riots in the street about this?
Truth be told I do think sometimes we are too mild in Belgium / Europe. But when I see stuff like this, I'd rather be too soft than too harsh.

Because these people WANT things like this. When I get home from work I'll try to find some examples for you of how crime and punishment is viewed by Trump supporters that I know on social media. It needs to be seen to be believed sometimes.
Keep in mind though, that was in Alabama. Now if you come to New York City for example, you get an entirely different conversation.
