This has nothing to do with my point. I have no reason nor compulsion to show respect for beliefs I find delusional and ridiculous. Even more so because these people believe I am damned. But it hardly matters. I rarely get into religious discussions with others, so mockery/disrespect for religious beliefs rarely comes up. Discussing religion with religious folks is an exercise is futility. This only came up here because a rather religious fellow was whining about his beliefs being mocked and disrespected.

And your second statement is meaningless semantics. You have to faith in, and ask forgiveness through Christ to be saved. Hence the point, if you aren't Christian, you're apparently going to hell.

Anyways, we disagree. I see no point in continuing this discussion.
with the attitude you have towards the subject, I can't say I'm surprised that this is your experience :D

nope, but I do consider personal attacks that are targetting someones faith personal :D besides there's a very thin line there, imagine you had a wife named Linda and someone next to you, fully aware of that fact, was going on about how all Lindas are slutty crocodiles, would that be personal to you or not?
Just for me to understand that thin line, if I say "all Christians are stupid" it'll be offensive to you, but if I say "Christianity is a stupid idea", or mock Christianity in general then it is not offensive to you. Is that correct?

the bond that makes family members more important than other people is also abstract, just like someones faith/ideology/idea.

you can call Icardi a whore all day long and no one will care even though he is "real life people"
Good thing I didn't say bond :p Family is a real thing that everyone is born with. But again, I'm not sure why you want me to defend the rule...

Also, I didn't realise Icardi was a member here. So in that case, now I expect insults towards him to lead to infractions.

what? :D if you disagree with it, why would you care if some non-existing force damns you to non-existing hell? I don't get it, you must be a very sensitive person
It doesn't matter that he doesn't believe in hell, what matters is that you do, and you hold that belief about him and other non-believers. Much like he believes that all religious people are morons. Why would you care what a non-believer thinks about you?

Also, he might personally know Linda and believe that she is a slutty crocodile. If you think he's worng, you shouldn't care about what he thinks, otherwise, you might want to (and you will be able to) leave Linda :boh:

I don't even think religious people are morons in general, aside from the fundamentalist side. I find religion fascinating and faith can be quite a beautiful (or conversely quite terrible). I took every religious studies course I could in University, along with mythology, archaeology, and other such related areas.

What I find moronic is demanding respect for a faith that says I am damned for not sharing it. If someone wants to mock science or philosophies I find compelling, I have no issue with that at all. In fact, science and philosophy only progress by being challenged and criticized. It's also quite amusing to bring up sensitivity of others while lamenting one's religion being mocked. :D

I wish we could go from post Ironic to post moronic.

It doesnt matter what is offensive to me individually (surely not a good idea to share it on a place like tuz :D), but I consider it a personal insult if someone says "you're dumb because you believe in God" or implies it strongly like the crocodile Linda example.

I hold a belief that we're all bad persons and deserve hell and thats quite clearly written in letter to Romans 3:23, I dont think theres room for interpretation there. The difference between a Christian and non Christian isnt in damnation but salvation. Do I think nonbelievers end up in hell? Yeah and probably plenty of Christians as well. Am I better than them? Hell no.

I do care about what people say, at least sometimes and to some degree. You honestly never care?

The reason I asked is that your Linda example does not apply here. We're talking about an abstract idea of religion. I don't see that in your Linda example. Also saying that "you're dumb" in an insult anyway without bringing religion into the mix. So I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I feel like we've tried this before, I dont think I can explain myself so that you'd understand

Exactly. That's your reaction every time: pretending that everything is obvious while your examples and explanations don't make sense, and are confusing at best. I stop short of calling them fallacies so that you don't get offended.
That falls in line with every religious person I know.

God created us people with free will and we made some shitty choices. You never read the Bible?
So an unborn human is destined to make shitty choices but he's also free. God I love religion.

Yes, I had a Catholic upbringing.

We made shitty choices? Are you referring to original sin by Adam and Eve?

I was taught that we were all born with original sin, but never that we were bad people and deserved hell. And that baptism cleansed you of the sin.

But nowadays the Catholic Church says you won't go to hell if you're not Catholic or even Christian, once you live a life pleasing to God.
