We are. But I'm not sure why being a republic constitutes a system that lets a few hundred voters decide fate of a state in an election. In my opinion, America is so connected right now that there is not much difference between values of, say, California and Texas. The divide in values is mostly between rural and urban America, and a system that gives some advantage to smaller states is no longer effective

Btw, it's what I think is going to be Trump's downfall and why I think the predictions of him being impeached will prove accurate: he will abuse his power at some point.
