It's also potentially harmful for Democrats, moreso than an exercise in futility. Nobody other than hardcore Democrats believe any of this nonsense, so they are alienating moderates, centrists, and independents. The funny thing is, the mainstream media very rarely mentions this, hoping it vanishes from memory. But from the moderates I talk to, the general understanding is that they've taken this too far, especially considering the original idea was Russian collusion, which proved to be false.

Are you that foolish to believe the Democrats don't act in the same manner? Come on bro, both parties consist of the exact same hypocritical scumbags.
That is true. Democrats are crooks too, but Rebublicana fell over the deep end when Dubya took over.

Most of the moderates I’ve talked to think Trump and his cronies are a disgrace, and aside from the economic successes of the past few years, despise the guy wholeheartedly and the sycophants most conservatives have become under him.

However, most of them also believe that you pick your battles wisely, and while the house should have rebuked/censured/whatever this behaviour in Ukraine, impeaching him for this specifically (especially in the current political climate) was rather pointless and stupid, and far too much catering to the wishes of the further fringe of the progressive wing.

But it’s also pretty clear that this tit-for-tat happens all the time in politics, and in this case the Trump administration was too brazen about it and deserved a rebuke for that, but short of impeachment.

You truly believe absolutely none of it is true? Just curious.

As for the alienation, I think this comes down to environment mostly.

You know, I keep hearing this, but I don't believe this narrative at all. Look who brought it forward - Pelosi. Not exactly the poster child of the more left-leaning Democrats. Sure they may agree with it, but it really doesn't feel that way.

I think it's pretty well understood that the majority doesn't care for Trump's antics and lack of professionalism. I also think that there is a divergence between the current state of the nation and the narratives peddled by the media. If you were to hold all political matters constant by tossing them aside, I don't think it would be incorrect to say we're not that bad off. The same latent economic issues that existed under Obama exist today and we are trending towards fewer escalations overseas. So much of the turmoil in the nation has been created by narratives based on shit that doesn't matter... matters of political persuasion.

The Russian collusion stuff was absolutely false, as proven by the investigation. The Ukraine tape totally unrelated to the initial investigation, on a totally unrelated subject? IMO this is grasping for straws and I'd wager to say that all former Presidents could have been impeached for something similar.

She isn’t, but that’s why she pushed against impeachment for so long. Same with most other moderate Democrats. The more activist and progressive wing definitely pushed hard for it, and this was just the tipping point where what they wanted could no longer be refused by the more centrist democrats

I somewhat agree with your first reply, there's PLENTY of people in my experience that are all for these retarded antics, which in my opinion do weaken us as a nation. It's not something to take lightly. I do agree that a lot gets blown out of proportion and we face some of the same problems though.

The collusion, yes. However, this is still the matter of obstruction of justice to be considered, something I think we could all see him doing. Then you have so much refusal to testify from those that would be directly involved with the Ukraine incident, not a great look. At the same time Republicans should have been able to call their witnesses as well, but instead of drawing attention to that mostly focused the entire time yelling about "BUT MUH BIDEN" or "BARK WOOF WHISTLE BLOWER". Hell, throw Biden in jail for all I care, but that wouldn't exactly serve as a defense for Trump.

Basically, I could see him being guilty of the accusations. You're probably right though regarding former Presidents as well. But hell, maybe we should be holding this position to a higher standard then if that's the case.

Oh, also I remember the supposed defense of "they were waiting to see if Ukraine was corrupt to release the aid," or some such bullshit like that. Does that mean we're going to hold off on giving aid to Israel now that Netanyahu has charges against him? I'll put my money on not.

You could well be right about it, but I just don't see that progressive wing being nearly as large or as influential enough to have such an effect. I mean, look at the primary polls now. You have Biden of all people in the lead by almost 10 points over Sanders at 28%, and then you have Yang at 4%.

I think at the end of the day, we have a polarized nation led by two parties that are essentially the same by nature, yet the masses think they have a choice by getting Trump impeached. Some will continue to obsess over political drama, while others will probably be pushed towards Libertarianism because clearly the government we have now is not worth salvaging. Most normal people care about opening their business tomorrow, yet instead we have this cloud of nonsense from Washington DC hanging over us, making everyone miserable. A clear indication we need lesser government, for the love of fucking God.

Impeaching MAGA, broke the internet today. Google/Youtube service not accessible in half of southeastern europe...

In the meantime we are all watching this show. Democrats must really know they won't win any election soon, if ever again.

I don't think Trump is necessarily innocent but, at the same time, there doesn't seem to be much he has done that is actually actionable.

I get why people don't like Trump, he's an embarrasing buffoon, a weak leader, has made unpresidential comments about numerous groups of people but those aren't impeachable offenses and when the Democrats are reaching for any chance to impeach it really plays into his own narrative that he is being treated unfairly by the press and by career politicians.

Looks especially silly when news has just broken that the previous two administrations lied through their teeth to justify continuining wars in the Middle East costing thousands of American lives, hundreds of thousands of Afghani/ Iraqi lives, trillions of dollars in debt and destabilizing the region/ creating ISIS/ migration crisis to Europe etc.

Trump's buffoonery really looks like small potatoes compared to the fucked up shit our more conventional administrations do on the regular.

Ideas and elections. They don't like Trump, we get it, but VOTE him out or accept the defeat.
This sounds like the "you don't like him" defense, I don't buy into that. People not liking him does not make him immune to doing things that are wrong, and this goes for anyone in government at any time.

As for voting and elections, he did lose the popular vote to begin with, but since then the House has moved to Democrat control as well as 7 state governors in a record turnout for voters. I can't speak for the other 49, but in New York this was mirrored on the local level as well:

I personally think we'll see both parties pushed further towards the fringes, I don't see this strife getting any better unfortunately.

Here's a good one though, a nice violation of your first amendment rights :touched:

It's not a defense, it's a fact. Everyone seems to overlook he won by rules coined a long time ago. Popular vote is a circus act, dressed in a democratic suit - like Mrs. Clinton. It's even more clueless to define every other election(we haven't checked who the bakers guild voted for a president) as a pro/anti Trump event. Surely, if only for the sake of those other positions and politicians, they must have had other platforms/ideas. I am running for governor of Florida/mayor of New Your to stop TRUMP is not just sad, its pathetic.

Also if Trump's 'meddling' is impeachable offense, last 4 USA presidents(at least) must be seeing visitors in jails or have had met their maker already.

With regards to the Rights of the Special People - it's about what one would expect. God chose them, they say, and we ... believe them. Now its a religion, ethnicity, race ... shameless people, but Trump is their pigeon and he is cornered by other pigeons.

I wouldn't say it's overlooked, I mean I even mentioned it in my post. How would it be clueless? Not sure what you're getting at with that "baker's guild" comment, but midterm elections are always seen as sort of barometers of the current administration in power, not just Trump, and I would assume not just in the United States as well. This would also apply to the "governor" comment. How many people ran to "stop Obama" or "stop Hillary Clinton?" These are how elections have always been, it's not just a Trump or Democrat thing.

But again I ask, would this be so bad? Should politicians not be held accountable?

Yeah but this was only meant as a response to Bjerknes calling for smaller government, by pointing out someplace where government should not be restricting personal freedoms (right to protest a foreign government).

No doubt about that, but this is all part of the con game and why the establishment hates Trump in the first place. Democrats I know who once hated the Bush family and McCain now think they’re “great” people compared to Trump, which doesn’t really compute with me.

The CIA and other alphabet agencies have meddled in foreign elections for years, including in Iran, Nicaragua, Iraq, and countless other places. Now they’re supposedly the ones telling us Russia and Trump are enemies meddling in our own elections. Pot, meet kettle. And Democrats have such a poor, poor understanding of history, or anything for that matter, that they fall for the bait because orange man bad.

It is very clueless. It shows to the entire world that voters in the USA aren't much more than the stereotypes would suggest. If I am elected mayor of a big city and I spend my time in office using the city's resources to fight our national policy - there isn't a thing more any foreign spy agency would have dreamed of me doing.

Instead, I would be trying to (for example) integrate our 'mexicans' and show everyone else that in our city - we have less problems and we are better off because of our 'different' policies. What democrats are effectively doing is going on a rape mission in America, just to prove Americans are much worse than Mexicans.

If Democrats have a better vision for the country they would have shown it. Instead they have Hillary Clinton in the corner throwing 'russian' asset at their only normal candidate - Tulsi(still in active military service). Either Tulsi has such connections that she is allowed by the US MIC to go to war and be a russian spy or Hillary and Co. must be singing those stories from a jail cell.

PS: And, yes, there is a time for the platform of STOP TRUMP. It's the next presidential elections. And it would still be pathetic, if they can't muster a better message. Trump(whom I don't like particularly) managed to resonate with voters and it wasn't cause he told them he is the best and they believed it.
