I still think Trump and the Republicans will lose this. He’s an awful choice and the only person they wanted less than him in the White House was Biden, who’s now gone.

He doesn't have an idea of what his actual policy would be, which is always bad.
And he seems to fuck up at every crossroads this campaign. Do you even remember he was almost assassinated? That sounds so distant now. And he's almost embarrassed to bring it up, because right after he said part of his ear was blown off but we're now two weeks on and there is no visible injury whatsoever.
Apart from his undeniably weak speeches I think it's just that he has outlived his welcome. Again, there is a whole generation of voters right up until 28 years of age that have heard nothing but Trump the last decade. Usually him responding to some sort of scandal. If Berlusca falls, so will Trump.

Personal observation: in a neighborhood pool party a woman who is very apolitical (never spoken a word about politics, put up a yard sign, etc.) was talking about how Rs want to limit access to IVF, and how it’s personal to her because she couldn’t have a child without IVF. I think Trump and Vance underestimate how much people are spooked by this Christian right crap.

This is all part of that project 2025 that Trump keeps denying he has any knowledge of when he clearly approves and will activate if he wins. He will have powers to throw away ballots in order to rig elections, and nobody can say or do anything about it as the law will protect him from any wrong doing thanks to the supreme court's unconstitutional decision to grant Presidential immunity.
I still question how much the Christian right is self-aware of how much Trump pulls a distracted boyfriend meme with them. Every one of his alignments is really about what's convenient at the time. (Coming from a former Democrat and required Kamala donor.) He'd drop them in a heartbeat if it were convenient.
instead of worrying about the base in friendly states or fight for electoral votes in places like Georgia and Arizona, politicians would have to speak to a wider demographic. I also think you’d see and uptick in voter participation, especially liberal folks living in red states and conservatives living in blue states since a national popular vote means everyone’s votes count.
