If you use Trillian for your MSN needs (like I do) and when connected there comes every now and then notification you've got mail (spam) and there's option to "check Hotmail.." (yuk) and that doesn't work.

What kind of system are you on? Most have bunzip2.
Newb started the easiest way possible, I started with Debian basic-cd (10meg ISO) and of course I've missed a lot of must have-progs and libs.. :frown:

But at least I've got past that and actually past one other missing link. So now I haven't compiled QT properly or I'm missing yet again something, but it's definetily going forward. I'll propably have KDE installed before summer

    Nice :D

Debian is a b. to install, I tried once myself and gave up, couldn't figure it out. But the package management system is sweet, dependency handling and all. :)

If you want something that's easier to install, you should try Gentoo. The install procedure is longish and in parts complicated but the documentation is comprehensive and *very* high quality. In fact that's why people flock to Gentoo these days. The downside is that it's a source compile distribution, past the install stage you build every package from source everytime, the system works well but it takes time obviously. I started using Gentoo a couple of years ago and I've never looked back. :)

If you want to try it some day, this will get you started:
    http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml

Well that's how I've set my Deb up to this point. Minimalistic start, and lots of swearing and time, that's the way I'm setting it up. :D

And as for Gentoo, that was my another choice.
