I saw Sideways yesterday, not expecting as much from it as my wife did. Critics have lavished praise on it. While I expected a good movie (and it was), I was skeptical because critics tend to wet themselves over movies that seem like they are about their own myopic lives: often losers who live hand-to-mouth to feed their artistic (literary, cinematic, etc.) obsessions and hope someone publishes their novel someday.
It's definitely grown-up humor and plot. But unlike most dramatic comedy of this type, the core of the movie needs to be about people who change. And pretty much nobody changes in this film... though that certainly alludes to the title.
Thumbs up, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
