just finished watching hotel rwanda. this is a must see movie. superb acting.

these events actually happened and this is a movie based on true events. events that forever will go down in history as a disgrace for humanity. how these people were butchered and no one moved to help them is a shameful and disgraceful ..................

A Rwandese friend of mine told me the whole thing is a lie. Apparently this Rusesabagina is something of a crook.

I really don't know, but I'd imagine someone who's from there would have a better grasp of the facts. He showed me some Rwandese websites that castigated the guy.

Anyway, it was just an anecdote, I don't know anything about it.

would be interesting to hear more martin. typically though hollywood has a long history of blurring facts and fiction to make their blockbuster movies. the amount of folk who think that braveheart is historically true is unbelievable

To watch a better movie about the situation in Rwanda one has to watch Shooting Dogs, it's a British and it reflects the reality much more. Also it is probably 100 times better than Hotel Rwanda movie-wise.

Exactly, as long as you can sell a good story to Hollywood they won't care, not exactly a fact checking institute. Which is why I think it's entirely plausible this happened.

The biggest disapointment in filming "a true story", for me was Hurricane. Talk about twisting the facts...after that, I take all true stories with a pinch of salt. As I should have done in the first place.

I think so, yes. Kilmer was outstanding, I've never before seen such a convincing portrayal of an actual individual.

Yep, though it could have fooled me easily. I heard the remaining band members couldn't really tell the difference between his singing and Kilmer's.
The Shawshank Redemption. By Jove, what a movie.
If I hear so much as a mouse fart in here, I swear by God and Sunny Jesus you will ALL visit the infirmiry... every last motherfucker in here!

Wonderful movie.
