:agree:
Airplane is pretty much the template for every spoof movie made since then. Was it also not the first popular spoof? I know it was obviously somewhat influenced (same writers etc.) by "The Kentucky Fried movie" but I wouldn't really consider that as a movie.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen Blazing Saddles yet. It's on my list. But so many movies to (re)watch and so little time. :frown:
I would not say that Airplane was the original spoof,Dr Strangelove(or how i learned to love the bomb) was probably the original and the Pink Panther films were lovingly mocking that genre but that said that was more a reflection of teh genius of Sellers.
Mel Brooks also made some brilliantly funny spoofs but Blazing Saddles is almost certainly his best (in my opinion anyway) and anyone who loves comedies definately has to see it

but yes Airplane is the yardstick for every spoof since then,it was silly, yet nostalgic at the same time and films like the naked gun took that template and ran with it

Sellers was a genius of the highest order, only now do i feel that we have exported someone with a similar level of creative brilliance in Sacha Baron Cohen

Hell yea!! Dr. Strangelove is probably my favourite movie of all time. I never thought I would say that a movie is my favourite but Dr. Strangelove stands out as something special.

Good point about Dr Strangelove.
I never really considered that one as a spoof, but it definitely has some of those moments. A lot of those moments come to think of it.
I should definitely watch it again though, it's been way too long since I have seen it.

Now who has seen Kilmer's masterpiece Top Secret?
Another one of those typical & great Abrahams / Zucker movies. I have the feeling this one is often overlooked though.

So I'm not alone in thinking Sascha is as close as it gets to Peter Sellers? Earily similar goof near obbsessive satirical comedian. I mean, they are both even uncomfortable being themselves in public, have to act out roles even then.

yup i think the similarities are eerie, it has taken a long time for a true comic genius of his ilk to come along and Sascha is a VERY BRAVE filmaker and is a breath of fresh air. his role in Taladega Nights was hilarious and shows he has great comedic timing in a scripted role as well as his quick-thinking and close to the bone remarks at just teh right time.
where he goes from here is anyones guess but i think that with him now being one of the most famous faces in the world he will not get away with another Borat/bruno type film

No, though he can have few suprises in store (lot of stupid people to find), but yeah prolly have to make more comedy roles in scripted roles, instead of his one-man . His cameo in that Depp/Burton musical Sweney Todd was also a riot (In voice work too, hehe, Madagascar, ridicolous as Julian the king). Dude is a total natural like never seen since Sellers.

I really cant phantom Hollywood tried to remade Sellers classic with Steve Martin...

I mean, scene like this, Sascha would totally kill it in Sellers style:

Instead, seeing Steve Martin and Beyonce butchering it to smitherins.

I'm going today to the cinema, which movie would you recommend:

Ice age 3 or Transformers 2?

*I know they are different genres, but which is better?

Cohen is a comedic genius? Because he can play an imbecile? Because he can ask unsuspecting people if they're gay? You're right, that is amazing.
no his ability to work situations, ask questions that people would probably usually be quite guarded about but making them feel confident and smug enough to show their true colours, his nerve in putting himself into somewhat dangerous positions and having the balls to do it,his timing is impeccable and the fact he can get the sort of reactions he does shows his genius.

though i do believe that if he didn't act like an imbecile it would not work,it is his seemingly nincompoopery that lulls people into his trap

I think his stuff is completely crap, lowest and most idiotic brand of humor. It's so below what makes me laugh it's infantile to me. I don't deny he can act though. Like Osman said he did Julian in Madagascar and that was solid.
