[Cronios]

The best western ever, after The Good, The Bad..., is definetly Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. It's not a typical western, has lots of humour in it, but a very entertaining movie.

Paul Newman and Robert Redford. 10/10.

Also, Magnificent Seven with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson. Typical western and very good.

no way, it was a channel 4 documentary inspired flm! channel 4 ran a series on the drug industry and thta was the inspiration behind the movie

very good film, the sex was maybe a sideshow that ruined the general feel of the movie and detracted from the actual quality of the character study this was really about

The sex was an exaggerated character study. It is part of the movie, we all know that they all wanted sex but could have been more satisfied without it.

Devil's Advocate.

The concept was good,but it was executed pretty poorly IMO.For starters,Keanu Reeves was a major dissapointment as the lead.Tom Cruise would have pulled this role off inifintley better than him.Reeves is a good actor,but when you talk about lawyers,Cruise aces it.I didnt like Al Pacino's performance either.The fake laugh,the typical accent..it was all really predictable.He's one of my favourite actors,but i was pretty dissapointed with this performance.And on top of that you had his dramatic entrances into scenes,which i found extremley annoying.I thought he delivered a neat speech at the end of the movie about God,but other than that,Pacino was barely average.The only good things about the movie were Charlize Theron,who i thought was fantastic,and the Paint It Black effect at the end.That was pretty cool.

Disagree completelly. Tom Cruise would stick out in that movie like a jew in a Nazi convention. The film didn't require someone who'd play a good lawyer, it required someone who doesn't show too much emotions, who is a little cold and unsensitive. A tall and pale Keanu was a good pick for the role. Cruise would be too "goody-2-shoes" in that role, I couldn't possibly imagine him in that movie. Cruise making a pact with the devil? Bah..

Pacino was awesome in the movie and that end-speech was the highligh of the movie. Charlize was excellent as well.

Overall it's a pretty good movie IMO, I enjoyed it quite much.

agree with you that this is a terrible dissapointment and pacino's performance was waaay over the top. he completely overacts in every scene but keanu is not taht bad in this IMO

agreed on the reeves part but again i believe this is one of the worst performances of pacino's career. he is so over the top that you start to wish for the understated perfection of michael corleone

It's Satan, it's gotta be over the top!

Lot of people seem to say that, I used to think so to but I changed my mind because I found out Pacino is almost always over the top. Apart from Corleone, in pretty much every film he throws the same tantrums, has the same pissed off yells and screams. But that's part of his charm, that's what makes him special.

While we're at Pacino(again), yesterday I watched Frankie & Johnny. A romantic drama with Pacino and Michelle Pfeifer. I thought it was pretty good, a little irritating at times but overall a pleasent watch. Weird to see Pacino in such a role but he nailed it like usual.

aye i watched that a few years back and was pleasantly surprised. but seriously man if pacino had stopped yelling and over-acting for just a minute there i would have been less scathing, for me it was probably the worst performance of his career. have you ever seen Angel Heart? watch de niro in that movie and you will see that the devil can be played with a quiet menace rather than a ranting overthetop performance

Anyhow, you can portray the devil in a variety of ways, it all depends on the film, the director, the approach, etc. In Devil's Advocat, the devil was supposed to be a crazy, loud, ego-centrical and manipulative bastard. In Angel Heart, he was a calm, calculated schemer. Which one is better, I don't know, but as far as the film goes, Devil's Advocat wins hands down IMO.
