so what you are saying is that it is right up there with liam neeson and patrick swayze playing brothers in 'next of kin' :pumpkin:
Oh God, it's actually better than that. I had nightmares I'm gonna end up with that accent after watching it. :D

Disagree completelly. Tom Cruise would stick out in that movie like a jew in a Nazi convention. The film didn't require someone who'd play a good lawyer, it required someone who doesn't show too much emotions, who is a little cold and unsensitive. A tall and pale Keanu was a good pick for the role. Cruise would be too "goody-2-shoes" in that role, I couldn't possibly imagine him in that movie. Cruise making a pact with the devil? Bah..

Pacino was awesome in the movie and that end-speech was the highligh of the movie. Charlize was excellent as well.

Overall it's a pretty good movie IMO, I enjoyed it quite much.
Arent you the same guy who calls Shannyn Sossamon a woman?:p.Anyway,i wont agree with the Cruise or the Pacino bit.I think Cruise can pull off dark roles well, the only thing is that he's played very few of them.Collateral? The Last Samurai?I think he would have done a fairly good job at it.Better than Reeves atleast.Reeves image suits the role, ill give him that, but as far as pure acting ability is conerned,i found him pretty dissapointing.

agree with you that this is a terrible dissapointment and pacino's performance was waaay over the top. he completely overacts in every scene but keanu is not taht bad in this IMO

agreed on the reeves part but again i believe this is one of the worst performances of pacino's career. he is so over the top that you start to wish for the understated perfection of michael corleone
Spot on.Pacino obviously has a trademark style, but here he overdoes it.Pacino cannot be held responsible for all of it though. The director needs some blame too. What i personally found most irritating was a perfectly normal scene in progress, and swooosh,in comes Pacino out of knowhere to deliver a smartass comment.I think the director tried a bit too hard to make him look like a cool, razor sharp tongued satan.

Cruise can pull of dark roles? Where? Collateral? Sure his character is a negatvie one but negative in a loveable way. That's still a long way of playing a complete bad-guy who you won't sympathise with one bit. Last Samurai? I almost cried in that movie, I don't see anything negative in his role there. Again, apart from the fact his character's background is negative. Cruise is just a good guy, face it. :p

Reeves is not a spectacular actor but he did his job well in Devil's Advocat, I can't imagine anyone else in that role.

Can you imagine how Depp or even Bale would have owned that role?!

It's Satan, it's gotta be over the top! :D

Lot of people seem to say that, I used to think so to but I changed my mind because I found out Pacino is almost always over the top. Apart from Corleone, in pretty much every film he throws the same tantrums, has the same pissed off yells and screams. But that's part of his charm, that's what makes him special.
Have you seen Donny Brasco? Now that's a great and totally different Pacino.

I can't imagine Depp but Bale would have been suited for that role. He has that cold presence which suits him for darker roles.

Yeah one of his best films definetly but I wouldn't call it a totally different Pacino. It's still that similar gangster enviroment, gangster persona, etc.. And I always thought he was out-performed by Depp in it, Depp simply rules in that movie.

Been a while since I seen it, I might refresh my memory.

As Good As It Gets

This is the first romantic comedy ive watched in a while, and it was Amazing.Absoloutley amazing.I dont care if liking a romantic comedy means that you're one ball short, but i loved this movie.I hated Jack Nicholson for doing Anger Managment, but he was outstanding here.So were Helen Hunt Gregory Kinnear.I hate Adam Sandler-ish movies, with the lame brand of comedy, but this movie was extremley enjoyable. The comedy was very well timed. It didnt make you laugh like a maniac, but it definatley made you smile. Its hard to believe that one of Hollywood's darkest actors could pull off so something like this off brilliantly, but then again,Jack Nicholson is a true icon. And his performance here reinstates that fact.Fantastic movie.Fantastic acting.

As Salman pointed out, he plays a different kind of gangster. The insecure loser looking for a hug :D. He plays this role in a subtle way. Depp is great in the movie, but I can't imagine the film without Pacino as Lefty.

I think the only different thing about Pacino's character in Donnie Brasco in the movie is that he plays a loud loser in it,whereas in his signature roles,he plays the loud man-who-matters.
Nah, Pacino doesn't play loudly in Donnie Brasco.

He's not loud as in LOUD if you compare his character to that of Tony Montana for instance, but id say he isnt really subtle either. Not being cocky obviously takes out a lot of Pacino's signature from the character obviously. If you're comparing him to the average Pacino loudness, then yes,he lies low from those standards.

'Donnie are you trying to kill me!Pull the window up!'.These rants were brilliant.
