Saw it on opening night (Friday) and was pretty good. The fake movie previews are funny, and the movies themselves are made to be cliché so you laugh. Tarantino's movie is well-directed and written, although it seems slower because it's right after Rodriguez's non-stop gore fest.
I thought it was kinda boring. For long stretches of time little was happening. I've seen a lot of movies with similar themes that were a lot more interesting.

Hmm..I've watched it about 10 times certainly, whomever I recommended it to I watched it with him, I was never bored. The actors were superb, I really got into the characters and the ending was really touching.. You probably had too high expectations for it, that can ruin a movie easily, when I first watched it I never even heard of it and I was thrilled.

Not really, I didn't have any particular expectations, just knowing that a lot of people rave about it. Yes, it was touching but good movies are, so that alone doesn't distinguish it from others.
So when it comes to the theme of prison, brutality etc one that made a much bigger impression on me was Sleepers (1996). Then on the subject of being in prison so long you can't function outside I don't really recall anything specific. Personally that whole thing about the prison library was quite dull to me. Finally the financial scams story was interesting, but it was nothing really exceptional, there's a lot of movies that tell these kinds of stories more effectively.
