I got to see a movie for free tonight that normally I would expect to be paid to see. Steve Martin, whom I think in the past 10 years has developed into a great serious actor and a terrible comic actor, tries to do the impossible (redoing a role Peter Sellers perfected) in playing Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther.

The movie had every reason to be terrible. Beyonce is thrown in for no other reason than to spice up the cast and lure in a totally foreign audience that would normally not be caught dead watching old white guys pretend they're French. There's the usual forced love interest requirement\mechanics. (EDIT: be careful for variable substitution on these forums... if I switched the \ to /, it changes it to "requirement/mechanics"!)

But in the end, I can say I enjoyed every penny I spent on this movie. Actually, free is about the right price. But my expectations were so low, the fact that it wasn't too bad was kind of a relief.

Oh, and btw, part of the opening plot concerns the French NT and the murder of their coach. There's a star player implicated named "Bizu"... perhaps an offhand reference to Zidane (i.e., Zizou)?

Oh, the plot twists of cheap entertainment...
