I will watch that Serge, it looks like a hoot.

The King, the netflix movie was really good, but slightly dissapointed in Timothy Chamalet as the serious lead, while Robert Pattinson and Joel Edgerton as the supporting characters were amazing.
Having seen Shakespeare’s Henriad performed on stage, this film was disappointing. And seeing one of the funniest characters in dramatic history, Sir John Falstaff, turned into, well, one of the least funny, was just tedious. Edgerton’s performance was good without that context, but adding Falstaff (not a real historical figure) and portraying him in this light, came across as a hare-brained idea.

Pattinson was definitely the highlight of the film, though. Although almost seemed out of place in how they created this, and one could have been forgiven for expecting him to bust out a Month Python “I fart in your general direction” at any moment.

In a vacuum, without context, the film might have been good, it is beautifully shot, but its script is poor and the Shakespeare plays that are its source material are far better.

I'm not familiar with the play, tho I heard Falstaff is fictional in advance (I'm fairly interested in most things historical, so was wary of this character), and comical, but still Edgerton was fantastic in the type of role he was given, instead of playing the super fat pathetic court jester of same name (according to reviews, as said, dont know or care about the play). For me I enjoyed it because I saw him as downtrodden anti-hero warrior who life beat to a pulp but still has honour and fight in him. Was good acting.

And yeah Pattinson was certainly dancing on the line of absurd and serious, which made the performance so captivating. The films plot in general was rushed, which makes Pattinson's zany style feel out of place, because the movie at times just went way through scenes. King Henry himself, played by an actor thats more teen heart throb boyish (tho serious drama actor, his age/style of roles is evident), was not transitioned in convincing way. From boy prince to serious and stern warrior King, they just jumped right past it and into the french invasion, without building him up, which made him look just like an emo king, a just albit confused but valiant one. But defenitely mainly just moody and emo, part acting (mainly would be less so with another casting choice) but mostly due to the directing/script.

But I still enjoyed the film, even if it could been more. It had some serious potential in some scenes that could used to see more of (some scenes of struggling with the burden of being made king, or the scene Falstaff is bogged down in the muck with all those armored knights, haunting, but fleeting).

Can't blame them. They'd stop making shit the very moment people stop watching it.
I wouldn't mind if it was movies that had huge potential but turned out to be shit either to bad directing or bad acting. Otherwise it's just so fucking stupid. But it these new generations too. I bet majority of them haven't seen old Terminator (or Gladiator, ... ) so they'd all rush to watch the new stuff because new trailer is all about effects and bombs :boh:

I watched Capernaum last year in Belgrade when we held films fest. That movie was brilliant and I loved it. When I left the cinema I saw like 80% of the audience cry.

Underground - I had to watch this as I saw plenty of our films only as a kid. I love listening to Kusturica, his brain is incredible but apparently so was this movie. I loved it. It was so unique, full of energy, had amazing shots and top notch acting. No surprise it won Cannes in '95. Blown away and totally surprised.

Cool Hand Luke - Great. Really enjoyable and entertaining. Both Newman and Kennedy were amazing. Nostalgic movies

Kill Bill Vol 1. - Piece of dogshit.

Dolemite Is My Name - I had tons of fun watching this one. It's a very good movie and Eddie Murphy was really great but I wouldn't say he really stood out nor he brought anything new. It was a classic Eddie Murphy that I've seen plenty of times IMO.

Tarantino is hit and miss imo. I don't get the hype for majority of his movies to be honest. My fav or his are Reservoir Dogs and Hateful 8 and I really liked those two. Pulp Fiction was good but imo very overrated as it's being presented as one of the best movies ever which is insane. Django is mediocre and overrated. I'll have to re-watch Inglourious Basterds but back then I thought it was only average. Kill Bill is pure shit really. Shallow entertainment while everything else is non-existent.

Almost completely agree. Love Reservoir Dogs and Hateful Eight. Pulp Fiction has great and memorable scenes but as a movie it’s overrated. I love Inglourious Basterds though. And yeah, Djanjo is just meh. Haven’t seen Kill Bill.

Kill bill is the type of movie not meant to be taken seriously, it's only light entertainment. Pulp fiction was a game changer in cinema because of its storytelling

Inglorious Basterds and Hateful 8 are my fav. Reservoir Dogs is good. Jackie Brown is pretty good for what it is, I like the 90's vibe and soundtrack.

Unpopular opinion, but I also liked Once upon a time in Hollywood
