I think i put him higher then you, but I wouldn't put him in top 10 best of all time. Pacino on the other hand... Well he's not versitale but man he is good in the roles he played.
Fell asleep halfway through, to be fair though I was three joints in when I started the movie. Generally speaking most movies like that are not really my cup of tea, the victimization overthrows the human struggle and the complexity of the issue. Roots the televised series from the '70s was/is really good though.

I haven't seen it, but those type of movies don't really interest me in the first place. Not because I don't care about the subject matter, but because whenever a movie like that comes out, I feel like they get overrated and people feel like they have to be overly sympathetic & politically correct about it. So whenever a movie about slavery or racism comes out, it's going to get a lot of nods at the awards regardless of how good it was.
Since I haven't seen it, it could very well have been a great movie, I'm just saying what tends to happen. "Crash" winning in 2005(?) is another example of this.
