I think its more down to the fact that movies are either superhero generic trash or just terrible in general. Tv shows are much better, generally speaking.

Same here....is it because we are getting old and picky??

You might be on to something here but imho i think it is because we are getting older and that affects our choices greatly because we are not so open to new things and are in a position where we can be nostalgic.
yeah, movies are really $#@! lately.
I was watching a YouTube video of "some of the best drama movies" where there were movies like "Shawshank Redempiton" , "Man On Fire" , "Shindler's List" ect. and i was thinking how all these movies are from the period PRIOR to, lets say, 2007/8 where, imho, the world of movies started deteriorating quality-wise. Its mostly, like Nzoric said, super hero or childish fantasia movies.....

Anyway, so I (finally) saw this today:

I really, really hated it. Its pretentiousness is rarely matched, and it really lacked depth. Trier's attempt to copy Tarkovsky's style just underlined that.

    I can't see your picture!
It's just The Element of Crime.

    No worries.

If you want be serious. I wouldn't consider Ran to be art house cinema.
Again, that also depends on the terminology you are using. I think I would call it art house cinema, but I'm sure you could argue for the opposite. I don't feel it's worth discussing though. :p

Nope, the last couple of years, Hollywood have been producing movies to 13 year old teenagers, cause that is where the money are.

Watched A Woman Under the Influence which was brilliant. Need to watch more of Cassavetes's works. Rosemary's Baby is next.

Also watched the Before trilogy in two days. I've been thinking for sometime if people are bearable, good, or even lovely only as long as you maintain a certain distance in your relationship with them. Get too close, too attached, and the good impression is gone. Of course it's not easy (at least for me) to maintain such distance because we naturally want more of anything which gives us a good feeling so we get close and committed and we ruin everything which was once so good. I desperately need someone to tell me that it's bullshit but Before Midnight just rubbed it in. I liked Before Sunset more than the other two. Oh and I found Julie Delpy very annoying at times.

    Gravity is awesome btw.
