Ok. What has De Niro done in the last 25 years to warrant this? As great of an actor as he is, truth be told, his best work was the first 10 years of his career
Awakenings, Goodfellas, Silver Linings Playbook, A Bronx Tale, Sleepers (albeit a smaller part, he still does it brilliantly), Casino, Heat, Jackie Brown.
Pacino. Scent of A woman and Any Given Sunday are probably his two greatest roles in that time span, but I can't see how they compare to My left Foot, In the name of the Father, Last of the Mohicans, Gangs of New York, The Boxer, There will be blood, and Lincoln
Glengarry Glen Ross, Sent of a Woman, Heat, Any Given Sunday, The Devils Advocate, Insomnia.

Hoffman has been relegated to supporting roles during that time span as well.
Why do you feel that he's been relegated? This isn't right, assuming that because someone plays a supporting role they're less relevant than the lead man, especially in the case of Seymour Hoffman who has done nothing short of brilliant movie on top of brilliant movie, pulling so much weight in his limited screen time.

I'm talking of the last 25 years.

And at this point in his career, what other aspects of his talent do you wnat him to utilize?

This guy has not played the same type of role twice in the last quarter century. If anything, that alone speaks to his amazing talent.
I just told you what I would like him to do. I'm not sure if I can explain it better, either I'm terrible at explaining or you just won't accept my argument - either way we land at a blind alley :D

Hoffman did one of the best performances of all time in his portrayal of Truman Capote. However, DDL does a performance like that every time out.
Exactly. Every other's actors "crowning achievement" is another day at the office for DDL.

He is the actor that everyone in this generation strives to be like.

The first two in your list haven't down the best work in the last 10 years.

He gets kudos for playing a flawed character?
The question was in the last 25 years, my answer would've been very different if we were talking about the last decade.

He gets kudos for playing a character bereft of any self confidence, a fragile, broken and naive character. The very same sort of role I'm looking for DDL to do, the problem is - I'm not sure if he could do it.

Nzoric can't count to 25 I see.:p
All the movies I listed are from 1988 or later.

I really didn't find Lincoln to be all that. That might be because the character he were playing constrained him from fully utilizing his skill set, but I was not blown out of the water by it.

Seymour Hoffman? Barely know who he is.

Benicio Del Toro has been really good.
You should watch more movies if you don't know who he is.

What about Di Caprio then?
Are you having a laugh :D ?

In regards to De Niro, every other film except for Silver Linings Playbook came out nearly 20 years ago, and in half of those films, he played a supporting role. When was the last great De Niro movie that came out where he was the lead actor?

The same with Pacino.

And see my other post regarding Seymour Hoffman. I thought you meant Dustin Hoffman.

Oh sure, the only male actor to win 3 oscars in a leading role couldn't play that type of character that you are looking for.

Have you ever even seen My Left Foot?

True, but some of them are pretty mediocre. Are you really using A Bronx Tale, Sleepers, and Jackie Brown as comparable to anything Daniel Day Lewis had done over the same span of time?

I could say the same about Any Given Sunday and the Devil's Advocate for Pacino. Sure they're entertaining roles but not comparable.

You asked for the last 25 years, I gave you a list of the movies from the last 25 years. You should articulate your questions better if you're not getting the answers you were hoping for :p

yes I've seen My Left Foot.

The last great leading role for Pacino or DeNiro was Heat.

However, I do like a lot of what DeNiro's been doing lately, but it's hardly the same type of work he did earlier in his career. He was fantastic in SLP.

I gave a list of the good/great roles they've had, nothing more.
