A movie can't be good because of the action/plot/acting because it represents something bad then that's a first I've heard of that.

I guess I won't see any modern day WWII movies because it paints Germans in a bad light.

Movie sucks because acting was below average, plot was horrible, music was crap and it holds nothing. It offered nothing new that wasn't already seen, based on a true story or not. Absolutely nothing was good in that movie.

People overrated it because Eastwood made it and because it had Cooper who was btw rather bad in the movie since his role had no depth at all.

It has nothing to do with painting a country in a bad light. But making a horribly bad movie for people who are easily amazed by dogshit.

Action? That's not action. That's a brainless journey of 2 hours where you cry. And not cry because you're touched by the movie but because it makes the brain squeeze and the torture goes out through the eyes.

Now and again America just needs one of these movies to keep the world turning, don't get mad :D

Interesting that an extremely conservative movie is nominated for Oscars, including best picture, in an extremely liberal Hollywood. Furthermore, not only is it nominated for best picture but Bradley is nominated for best actor which counters your argument considerably.

-Best picture
-Best Actor
-Best Writing Adapted Screenplay
-Best Film Editing
-Best Sound Mixing

Lastly, if you actually payed any attention to the movie you should have realized it's actually an anti-war movie. It clearly shows the effects of war on a solider and the deadly effects of PTSD as a result of exposure to war and how it changes the psyche of human emotions and the aftermath of what happens to the family on the home front. If anything, and its obvious you completely missed the point of the movie, Eastwood was showing the ugly emotional toll on soldiers. Now, regardless of your view on America's Military/Government/Decisions to go to war are in fact irrelevant because nothing about the movie portrays any of that. It's strictly down to the emotional toll soldiers endure (my wife included, she was Navy & at Gitmo) on what happens to a soul once it has actually seen war. If anything this movie was to show America the bad side (death included) of war, not the reward ceremony at the end but that actual day-to-day regress in quality of life for soldiers as they cope with what they saw.

Your criticism is certainly noted, but I'll take actual movie critics opinion more seriously. It's interesting because here in DC the movies are obviously loaded with current/retired US soldiers who can speak to the horrors they faced/committed during wartime.

Again, I'm sure there will be another smart ass comment that follows this that people laugh at or poke comments at Americans, like myself, and that's fine but you won't see me stoop down so go right ahead with the rash comments.

I'm sorry bro but you have no idea what you're talking about. Oscar reward nowadays doesn't even mean much as for years we've seen shit movies get nominated while decent ones are getting ignored. This has nothing to do with critics being right and majority of audience wrong. It's funny you mention those nominates because it's just shows how pathetic the whole thing is lol.

And no, you're just partly defending everything cause of your wife because I'm sure she loved the movie so it's a domino effect.

I've made some posts about the movie and why I find it terrible. Judging from your post you haven't read any of it so you're assuming the reasons of my negative voice about it. I didn't judge it based on American wars over the past decade nor I expected the movie to be full of (brainless) action/shooting. Like I said, what this movie offered was already seen dozens of times. He goes, leaves his family, comes back fucked up, goes back, returns. It's one of the worst war movies ever. And yeah, acting was pretty fucking bad. Copper is way overrated, at least when it comes to this movie. He had some good stuff but he showed absolutely nothing here. Even a retard could hold a sniper and talk 10 sentences. I have no idea why you mention half of those things, like I'm hating the movie because it promotes violence of the US? Dude, there were plenty of quality war movies coming out from the US that blow this mediocre piece of shit away, it's not even funny. And it's not because they are packed with action, violence, but because they were made with a brain.

It just shows how it's easy to satisfy a common man with a garbage movie being produced by Hollywood.

Critics? I've seen plenty of times ratings of player which are laughable. Same goes for them and their reviews.

She actually didn't like it and how it portrayed Arabs. Did you forget she is Lebanese? Whether she was military or not doesn't sway my opinion because I would have felt the same 2 years ago before I met her.

Its hilarious this forum and how any difference in opinion is immediately jarred with comments like "you're an idiot; you have no idea what you're talking about;, etc". So, if I'm a common man, what does that make you? Because I disagree you are somehow better than the common man because that's exactly what you are saying?

I guess the box office record the movie is setting simply shows how all of us Muricans's are common folks. :touched:

The same movie critics judged movies you like but somehow they all got it wrong with American Sniper. Strange coincidence.

Nope, but it's those people who were involved with the army could hail it and say how true the change of a person it is. And yeah, it is true. But like I said, we've seen that plenty of times but unlike in other movies, this one had it as a main story. And yeah, I actually did forget she's Lebanese. If I even knew that before.

I didn't say you're an idiot nor I think that. I'm just saying how I see it just because you seem like you haven't seen the quality stuff. It's like when people rate Coelho and jizz on him just because it's the only book the read.

Sorry if you felt insulted as I meant no harm. You're actually more normal than majority of people here. It's just a heated argument but it's mostly because you bring those points in your suitcase. I mean, I'll never understand the 'oh but they said it, it has to be like that!'. It reminds me of a scene where a girl said 'it was in the media, it must be true!'. So I think it's quite bad to bring the whole 'but it's nominated for Oscar' argument. Hell, there were tons of stupid movies that won the Oscar, let alone get nominated for it. I don't really care if it sweep the awards. :boh: I know I won't change my view on it just because it has a label on it. Simply because I watched much better (war) movies that weren't as overrated as this one.

And no, I don't look on myself as a being who's above others. With so many years here and so many posts you could only conclude that I've underlined how I'm under those. But yeah...

Well, I won't disagree with you that there are better war movies because I absolutely agree with you on that as there are plenty but I'm also not saying American Sniper was the best war movie nor am I hinting that, all I said yesterday was (not as a fact) in my opinion it was a great movie. I've laid out my reasons for why I think it is.

Apologies for getting testy, but it does seem that quite a bit my opinion gets jumped on here because most know where I stand on a lot of issues and are extremely quick to jump on a bandwagon.

Regardless of our opinion on the movies we both need a sandwich. I ate a chicken breast with mayo, honey Dijon, lettuce on ciabbata bread.

I also don't think either one of us as "common" as I happen to think you are quite intelligent as do I think that of myself, but you will quite easily (and probably immediately after this) find some that disagree. It only translated to me that's what you were saying.

I didn't eat since yesterday. So I pretty much didn't eat anything for like 30h bar a banana.
