Well we can't expect everyone to turn out as successful as Nedved. Thats like us every year hoping that Pepe, Marchionni and Martinez turn out to be as successful as Camoranesi was.

That was my point too.
If we're seriously after Bastos then it's useless to say "Nooo, why waste a non-EU on him, I'd rather get...", because if we're after Bastos we are directly saying that ~13-15m is how much we can pay for players and we can't fight for those other wanted non-EUs like Neymar or others.

Sure, buying Bastos doesn't mean that we can't spend +25-30m eur for some EU passport holding star player, but I really doubt that. Imo in addition to the "loan+right to buy" players we already have, we will add 3-4 guys like Bastos, which will make our team stronger compared to this year, but we will still be far behind Inter and Milan.
And that's normal. We can't expect to start fighting for the best players in the world and create a great team in one summer. Lets just hope that the transfers will be good ones and not ones who'll force us to start from zero again in 1 or 2 summers from now.

Bastos is 27 now, btw. He will be 28 in August. Almost as old as Nedved was back then.

P.S: But it's a silly comparison. Nedved was a star in the best league in the world. Best or one of the best players of a world class Lazio team. Bastos is yet to achieve anything in his career and he won't become now better than he was. With Nedved we didn't even need him to become a better player. It was enough to play just as well as he was doing for Lazio.
