Excluding Maradona, Platini and Pele, football hasn't changed THAT much since the retired ones played, most of them played at the same time as Messi and Ronaldo at some point so is not crazy to compare.

it's so hard to understand why people put zidane next to the gods of football, but del piero can't be that close as zizou...they both have kinda similar careers, won trophies, ucls, world cups.. Del Piero is unique because he is the captain. When you say Zizou you think about the french roulette, #5 at real and alger. When you say Del Piero you say Juve, trophies, broken records, ton of goals (a la del piero style)..and it's kinda unique. For me Del Piero matches Zidane.

Zidane is a God. It's not only what he accomplished @ club level, but also on an International stage. Guiding France to the World Cup in 98, winning Euro 2000, and almost single-handedly leading the French to another triumph in 2006. Del Piero was always a peripheral figure for the national team; in 98, which was supposed to be his tournament, he was outshone by Baggio in the colors of the Azzurri. He never really had the same impact for Italy that Zidane had for France, even in winning the World Cup with Italy in 2006.

Even at club level, where both players have an abundance of accolades, Zidane won Real Madrid the CL trophy in 02 with that magnificent strike, and played at the highest levels more consistently!

Had Del Piero not suffered that terrible injury, things might have turned out differently, but as it stands, Zidane is clearly the better player. Del Piero never truly recovered from that injury.

zidane was more important for france than del piero for italy, this is crystal clear. But DP is out there just because of what he has done over the years for Juve. And Del Piero won an ucl too...played finals too


anyways i'm glad 2 years of them in the same team...what a fantastic team. Barca had nothing on that complete team
