There are certain aspects of his game that are better than Zidane's. As an overall player, Zidane is still ahead of Messi but I would expect Messi to reach that standard very soon. In fact, if he continues playing this way and even improves, he could very easilly become the greatest football player in history. He does have that potential in him.

I still think it's pretty useless to compare two players, Maradona or Messi or Ronaldo and even Del Piero
I don't see the point in comparing all these great players as anyone of us has an opinion that is influenced by our emotions
this is not a matter of the quality of a player but only certain snapshots we keep remembering
and how can you possibly say that Ronaldo is better then Messi or vice versa

Easy there tough boy, how about you learn how to talk in a proper way then come back and have a discussion. I think Messi is as good as Maradona and with time (if he stays healthy, consistent) he WILL be better. I have seen Maradona play, and I say "I have seen him play" I don't mean youtube videos.
Ok you got me there. I love Maradona as a player, but people get worked up if you compare somebody to him or even say that a player better than him. Messi has been around for ~ 5 years on the big scene, and has won everything at club level. He is 22 and dominating opponents, whether EPL teams, or la liga or whoever. Talent wise Messi is as good as Maradona, he makes it look so easy similar to the way Diego did in the 80's. What I can't understand is how people get mad for comparing a great player like Messi to another great player "Diego" , and mad for saying saying that I prefer Messi over Maradona. I saw both, they are the most talented players I have ever seen play the game, and if I am given the choice between one of them, I would pick Messi over Diego. That's just my opinion. English fans argue that he is not proven in their own league, guess what? He toyed with almost all the big defenders. Eventhough I am cheering for Arsenal in CL agianst Barca, I am sure he will toy with them too. I am not a baraca fan, and I don't run around in a Messi jeresey, I just admire talent when I see it, that's all. Both diego and Messi are great, but it's just a personal preference for me to pick Messi over Diego.
