Juventus director general Luciano Moggi held serious talks with Inter Milan yesterday over defender Fabio Cannavaro.

Inter have encouraged Juve to bid for the Italy captain, with new trainer Roberto Mancini happy to rely on summer signings Nicolas Burdisso and Sinisa Mihajlovic this season.
Inter have actually made the first move, asking Moggi for a straight player swap involving Juve goalkeeper Fabian Carini.
The sticking point is that Inter want Juve to cover Cannavaro's entire £3 million salary. The Turin club would prefer Inter either pay a percentage of his wages for the coming season or hand Cannavaro a pay-out to cushion the cut in salary he will have to take to join Juve.
