United won't listen to Ronaldo offers
Manchester United have declared their intention to keep hold of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The future of the Portugal winger has been the subject of intense speculation over the past three weeks, with the 21-year-old twice claiming he would like to move to Spain.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson initially suggested he would try to keep Ronaldo at Old Trafford and those comments have been reinforced by the Old Trafford outfit this morning.
'Manchester United has noticed the increasing media speculation over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo,' said a statement released by the Red Devils.
'The club can confirm there is no possibility of Cristiano being sold.
'Cristiano recently signed a new contract until 2010 and the club fully expects him to honour that contract.
'The club will not listen to any offers for Cristiano.
'Cristiano is one of the brightest young stars in world football, as demonstrated by his performances at the World Cup and Manchester United is not in the business of selling their best young players.'
Ronaldo, who is spending time on his home island of Madeira following the World Cup, was quoted in the Portuguese media today.
'There are possibilities for me to continue at Manchester United but there are other possibilities as well,' he said.
'Everything is open, if I have to leave Manchester United I don't want to leave on bad terms because it is a club that has contributed to my evolution as a human being and as a professional.
'It is an issue that has to be discussed in the next few days. For the time being I want to distance myself from football. The most important thing is to rest and go back to Madeira.
'I have no reason to leave the club, they have always supported me, they always gave me guarantees of being able to evolve as a player,' he added.
'There is still nothing concrete. During this week I believe the issue will be resolved.
'If it's a question of staying there it will be fine, if I leave it will also be fine. It is still a question that has to be decided, I have four days to resolve it.'

Italy’s World Cup hero Fabio Grosso is officially an Inter player after he completed his move from Palermo today.
The two clubs initially agreed a £4m transfer fee before the World Cup Finals and the defender was in Milan on Thursday to finalise his switch.
The left-back, who slotted home the winning penalty in the Germany 2006 Final against France, has penned a contract until June 2010.
Grosso spent the morning at the Saras offices of Inter owner Massimo Moratti who has publicly praised the stopper in recent weeks.
Grosso then transferred himself to the outfit’s headquarters where he held a meeting with technical director Marco Branca and sporting director Gabriele Oriali.
The new boy also spent a brief period with boss Roberto Mancini as they discussed plans for next term.
Grosso will be officially unveiled to the media once he and his pregnant wife have spent a few weeks on holiday in Sardinia.

Lyon in talks with Juventus for Trezeguet

Olympique Lyon are favourites to land Juventus striker David Trezeguet.
Barcelona have been long-term suitors of the Frenchman, who will leave Juve once they are demoted from Serie A later this month.
But Juve are in talks with Lyon over a loan arrangement, which will see Trezeguet return to Turin once Juve win promotion back to the top-flight.
Trezeguet is happy with the proposal and negotiations are already at an advanced stage.

Coach Gerard Houllier earlier this week declared it was out of the question for Diarra to join another European outfit, saying: "Diarra will not go, it's clear, for me he has decided to stay."
But the player, a reported target for Real Madrid, Internazionale and Manchester United, is determined to do what he wants.
"I know that the club count on me and I also count on them but no one has the right to talk in my name," the Mali international told L'Equipe.
"I am open to any offer."
Diarra joined Les Gones from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in 2002 and has since won four consecutive French titles.

Ronaldo has pulled back from his claim he will definitely quit the Red Devils after failing to receive the support of manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the wake of the abuse heaped on the Portugal star following his involvement in Wayne Rooney's dismissal during the World Cup quarter-final defeat of England.
However, in admitting there is a chance he could stay at United, the 21-year-old has also confirmed he could still leave, with his future set to be resolved before the weekend.
'There is still nothing concrete,' he said.
'If it is a question of staying then it will be fine, if I leave it will also be fine.
'It is still a question that has to be decided and is an issue that has to be discussed in the next few days.'
As he has now headed back to his home island of Madeira to recover from his World Cup exertions, Ronaldo is leaving all negotiations to his agent Jorge Mendes.
Whatever discussions Ronaldo thinks are going to take place promise to be brief, with both Ferguson and United chief executive David Gill adamant the player will not be sold.
It is over a decade since Ferguson last lost a player he wanted to keep and on that occasion, Andrei Kanchelskis' departure for Everton came amid allegations of aggressive behind-the-scenes agitation from his advisors.
Although the Red Devils could make a handsome profit on the £12.2million they paid Sporting Lisbon for Ronaldo in 2003, such a move is evidently not on the agenda.
