well, tbh, one might say that Real played without wingers
yeah, kinda... they always had at least ronaldo on the pitch, either with bale on the right, or with isco behind benzema and cr. with isco, they lost their symmetry a bit. for instance in cardiff, they were the most active on the left wing, with both cr and isco trying to exploit our bonucci, barzagli, khedira trio.

Yeah, i thought Madrid lined up as a 4-3-1-2
4-3-3 with bale and 4-3-1-2 with isco

Sarris concepts are nowhere near implemented and we arent the prettiest in Europe so far, but no way you can say that our playing style is the same as last season. We're playing a looot more through the center and with more short passes, last season some even started to call us Crossventus.
Not that I think we crossed the ball too much last season, but there's definitely a slight decrease there. We're down to 17 crosses per game from 23 per game last season. Quite interestingly Inter have gone from 29 crosses per game under Spallo to 18 per game with Conte.

...because of costa's injury. sarri was a 4-3-3 guy for at least the last 4 seasons, and probably will play with wingers once costa recovers.

btw i wouldn't mind playing with wingers. i can't really remember the last team to win the cl without proper wingers. chelsea maybe, with freaking ryan bertrand as a lw...? still, they played a 4-2-3-1, so the last team to win the cl that gave up the wings must be '06/07 milan.
Its one thing to play with wingers and another to play as stubburnly through the wings as we did last season, not every team with wingers gets glorious labels like Crossventus. :D

The team creates scoring opportunities far more fluidly and dependence on individual skill and brilliance is almost none.
I find this notion of individual brilliance quite funny to be honest. It's not like having great individuals who can make things happen is a bad thing. Pretty much every goal requires individual skill and some level of individual brilliance. Thankfully we do have those great individuals that win you games.

Exactly, i’m really having a hard time understanding why that’s not already obvious to some, as if admitting we won through a mix of good organization and individual brilliance is a bad thing instead of concentrating on the fact that we managed to win comfortably regardless of not necessarily playing some sort of spectacular football thus far.

Who says that?

Complaining about goals coming from "individual brilliance" it's not saying "individual brilliance" is bad.
It is when you use it as an argument as to why our play/coach has been bad. There's really no other way to read it.

90% of goals in football come from individual brilliance. This is not basketball where you have set plays. Players are the ones making decisions and reading situations.

I guess Juve is probably one of the most difficult teams to make play for goals. For one it's Italy, another thing is that teams come in defensive mentalities against us. Surely atalanta or sassuolo will score a lot when they have the talent AND play teams that will attack them and try to win. Anyway, I think we will improve more. Not sure if to the level of when tevez was playing for us (best football in recent history to my mind) but we will improve

I think Sarri see that 4-3-1-2 now is the most suitable formation for our squad depth. Especially after he sees Berna as more in midfield specialist than a winger

1st : Pole; Cuadrado, Bonucci, De Ligt, Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Ramsey; Dybala, Ronaldo

2nd : Buffon; Danilo, Rugani, Demiral, De Sciglio; Can, Bentancur, Rabiot; Bernadeschi; Costa, Higuain

But what happens when Costa comes back? Does he slide more cntral? Do we play more of a fluid formation with width?

You guys are drunk. Allegri made the team play exactly as he wanted. Defensive, offensive, passing game etc. he did it all. Sarri has done nothing new. Last season he fucked up and made the team top way too early. But we still looked like a team who could compete for 3 competitions. We played like a top team with some troubles.

Now, we look like a troubled team seeking top status.

We are playing differently from last season. It is obvious to anyone who is objective.
Even Pjanic Agrees with you.
“My teammates always look for me and I like that. Playing under Allegri was completely different, we immediately looked to get the ball wide.”

It’s funny though. Same people who say we play same or worse, praise players for being better this season, Cuadrado, Bonucci, Pjanic, Alex Sandro, Khedira, Dybala.

And please stop bringing back last season to compare with Allegri, why not bring 2015 season where we were 10 points behind Roma. Ill judge Sarri in December (his style of football) and in May his titles success to Compare with Allegri. So far Ive been happy with what Ive seen.

Sarri is a street rat but he has gotten two good results from a tricky first two CL games. It may not be Sarriball but why would it? I respect him switching up his tactics with the players we have rather than stubbornly trying to force Matuidi and Khedira to play like Napoli of two seasons ago.

I may make jokes about Sarriball in the live thread but its mostly to mock Tuzzers who thought Allegri was playing Catennaccio last season while Sarri would somehow have the same lineup playing tiki-taka :howler:

We’ve had some poor games and some good games thus far. Hardly indicative of anything thus far other than a new coach getting his feet wet at the club and figuring out what he thinks will get the most out of his squad.

I have never liked Sarri. But he’s here now and there’s not much point making judgements on his time here until December at the earliest with the end of CL group stage, and more likely the end of the season. Hopefully he surprises those of us who dislike him and leads us to glory.

Do you even fully read some of the posts here you are attempting to send arrows at? Because frankly the first part of your post makes zero sense whatsoever, different doesn’t equal better in the same way that you won’t see anyone sane in here comparing the 2015 or 2016 season to the one now when theres a pretty good term of comparison if we do look at last season compared to the one now, where not only do we have CR7 but also the squad is pretty much the same as last season, actually even with slight improvements for this one.

Agree with the last part tho, too early to judge and there’s definitely still time needed to see some clear improvements in terms of fluidity and confidence to our game most importantly.
