About
Soon is an image macro series that typically features a creepy looking figure peering out of a dark enclosed space with the word “soon” overlaid. It is meant to imply that the figure is planning some kind of devious scheme. Some of the “Tonight You” derivatives use a similar formula.
Origin
An image of a cat staring at a chihuahua with the “Soon” caption was posted on I Can Has Cheezburger[1] on April 12th, 2007.
Honey Bear
The first popular derivative on Reddit[2] featured a photo of a bear honey container that looked as if it were peering out from the cupboard with evil eyes. The original image was taken by artist Brock Davis[3] and is called “Honey Bear Sweet Honey Bear”.
Spread
The Honey Bear instance was reblogged by The Chive[4] on June 25th, 2010 and “best of SOON macros” article was posted via Buzzfeed[5] on April 1st, 2011. On Reddit[6], there were several popular threads in late 2010, and early 2011.
