i see no physical reason why MDS could not be just as good. lichtsteiner is neither a good crosser of the ball nor a good dribbler. All he did was body feints and run past opponents like a windhound. If Lichtsteiner was the best or one of the best in his position is debatable, because i think his performance was heavily augmented by us having pirlo. those balls over the defense were majestic and not many can play those balls with that accuracy.

if we had lichtsteiner in his best form he still would not be impressive, because we simply have nobody that can play the ball like pirlo.
So lichtsteiner would make the run in behind the defense, whoever would try to play to ball to lichtsteiner would fail and the ball gets intercepted and the counter attack of the opponent now has our right wing exposed with nobody to cover.
in that sense i am glad that MDS right now does not do those runs, because if he did there would be nobody to deliver the balls. it would only leave us even more exposed.
pls, you're just heavily underrating Licht, he was a defensive beast, constantly ran his socks off so hard that he abused both the opponent and himself physically and he had a very smart movement offensively. if you want to know what MDS is lacking: he has neither the heart, lungs, skill or brain of top level Licht, the only thing they have in common is that they play the same position and are white. playing that perfect pass is hard, but making a well-timed run behind the defense that is very well aware of your plans is not easy. Figo beat everyone with one step-over, Robben with cutting to his left and shooting, and in a way Licht was a master at sneaking in behind opponents defense

The kid should be given more chances.

I don't think he's good enough to play at this level but one official match shouldn't be reason for such bashing. Licht was never a great player but he found his place here for many years, this kid can get better with the right guidance and time.

    Folks are just plain sad

Handing out free passes to the likes of Trashamoah

The only surprising bit is that folks aren't giving him a free pass because he bleeds marinara...

Asamoah before he got injured was at a level that De Sciglio is no guarantee to reach.

Come on. You know that it was injuries that did Kwadwo in. Nothing else. It was never about ability with Asamoah.

Licht was superb for us from day one. He was a proven top Serie A right back and played a huge part in winning consecutive scudettos. De Sciglio is not comparable.

    :agree:

Asamoah was also superb for us pre-injuries. People seem to have short memories.

Employing the term "superb" when describing Asabob "pre-injuries" is a bit radical. He was constantly played out of position by Conte which derived criticism here about his lackluster performances. Of course there were those who defended him then, as there are now.

Mattia is young and will thrive under Max as he did in Milan.

He was benched in Milan, he surely didn't thrive there.

To think we let Criscito go back then

Don't think he could've covered the right though I think he could've done better than MDS.

Come on, he was an important player for us under Conte. His form at the end of the 13/14 season played a big part in our strong end to the season and breaking 100 points. Injuries have taken their toll but that shouldn't be forgotten.

It's been a long time since De Sciglio "thrived" in Milan.
