If he’s been so great at Bayern(whenever not being benched that is) how come only United seem to be seriously interested? Or why is Bayern even trying to get rid of him when they still have other CB’s that underperformed like Upamecano and Kim still around? I guess it must be the wages conversion to performances ratio that just doesn’t add up for most teams.
Wages and injuries, now we have a new inexperienced coach that has this "brilliant" idea that he can make Upamecano into the next Beckenbauer. Laughable considering he has been here for 3 years and has cost us considerably more on the pitch than De Ligt, but he is not slow and has good passing, so he's getting a free pass.

Kompany thinking he can make Upamecano the next Beckenbauer.... Good luck, you're gonna need it.

"Juventus is a great team with great players and I had a fantastic time there, but Bayern Munich has the ambition to win the Champions League and I felt like this ambition was less present at Juventus."

"I had a great time, I really enjoyed it. But I felt it was time for a new challenge."

---

Revisiting when he left us... great job De Ligt. Gotta admire the ambition of playing at United where the next new challenge is winning the Champions League — a tournament the club isn't even participating in

And thats when Marotta will get him.

@BayernFan whats your thoughts on De Ligts time at Bayern and reason why he's being sold?
I think he has been solid whenever he played, but he never managed to be consistent because of constant injuries.

That combined with his massive wages and two coaches in a row who doesn’t rate him. But those same two bums of coaches prefered Upamaguire for big parts of the season and Tah, so I don’t think they should be taken that serious.

I really hope we’re not making a Real Madrid Arjen Robben here. Selling someone who’s injury prone, but where you can still see he’s world class when fit and having consistent time on the pitch. My fear is we’re making a mistake here, but time will tell.

You know what I share your anxiety, I think it's a mistake on Bayern's part. Nagelsman and Tuchel pick their favourites early. De Ligt isn't the biggest enthusiast for training but a whole lot better on the pitch. As for koeman, he ain't even a coach.

De Ligt actually became a starter under Nagelsmann and had his best performances under him. He wasn’t happy when he was sacked.

How much he's getting after the tax per season?

That comparison really made me laugh a bit, although i can see where you are coming from with it, but i think you can relax because DeLigt even if he becomes a consistently good defender he will never unlock games or score crucial and brilliant individual goals that elevates everyone around them to a higher level… he is a solid CB when being part of a well functioning system, but that’s about it, he is replaceable even on his best days, just depends on who you replace him with.

Not that they're a like any bit, simply just that Robben was also some 24-25 years old when he left Real Madrid and was yet to enter his prime. He and Ribery became the best wingers in the world during his/their prime.

Not to say De Ligt will become the worlds best CB, he might already have topped. But my fear is he will become a real beast when playing under a manager that puts trust in him, he still have plenty of years to grow before he should be in his prime.

Guess time will tell.
