Also, CL as a competition was not as great before the 90s.
Serie A itself had bigger teams than CL.

Who said “champagne football”? I said fantastic football. The well-balanced, dominant, winning football we played for 3-4 years under Allegri. Pretty obvious that lots of fans who aren’t pre-pubescent teens enjoy it. Just because you and dingus and maxi can only enjoy one single style of football… I mean c’mon. Talk about narrow-minded.

I think we played many great games and in others we grinded it out. But in CL during those years, when it got tough, it was mostly grinding it out and scraping by, besides some really good games.
Dortmund games, one game against Real and Barca each, stood out for me. But even in the good games against Barca and Real, it was very even and could easily have gone both ways. Same for the final against Barca!
To me personally, those were great seasons and due to CL record previously, somewhat above my expectations. But we had a killer team those years too with the best midfield + defense in the world arguably.
But from that and calling it FANTASTIC FOOTBALL!, not for me. I wouldnt know what to then call the football played occasionally by Real, Barca and Bayern, when they really are trashing teams in CL. That is called champagne football? Ok

I don't think anyone particularly had a problem to see Allegro grinding it out or parking the bus in Europe. Because any sane fan understands there is talent/money gap with the rest of Europe so you have to figure out other ways to win.

The only serious challenge in Serie A since the first Conte season was from Sarri's Napoli. Iirc we had a disastrous start to that season, but once we got going there was confidence we could catch up and we did. Yes it was slow tempo and not very offensive but we managed most games with confidence and Napoli always looked more nervous despite scoring freely.
None of this holds true for any of the "good runs" we've had this season or last. If anything we were confident that the 1-0 wins wont last because we played like shit every game and never looked like we were managing those games well or in control. One is a team that believes in itself and its approach and confidently manages games using that approach, the other is a team that doesnt believe and cannot apply that negative approach with any confidence at all.
