In his early years we had a strong foundation but missed fluidity in the attacking stage. It wasn't a very offensive system but it was a system. In his final year I think he tried to shift to an offensive style and the foundation started to crumble beneath him. By now its completely crumbled.

I dont expect him to build an attacking team but I do expect him to instill a solid system. Conte's Juve and Inter weren't offensive either (3-5-2 is very rigid). In fact Allegri's first year with us was probably more adventurous going forward than any Juve or Inter.

We saw improvement under Pirlo, too. We won four matches in a row scoring three goals and almost kept clean sheets each time, including Lazio. Then we lost at home to Benevento. Spezia seems like a good match to get a first win, or a nicely performed draw.

Any season missing out on scudetto is a failure imo. How blame is apportioned is a different story. The coach always deserves some even if management deserves the lion’s share. So, no, not a great forecast, but I think it’s a reasonable one. This squad doesn’t look near good enough to pull a 15-16 run.

I think our squad is top 2-3 in the league, and dependent on whether players like Bentancur, Rabiot, Tek are completely washed or can recover some degree of form, could even be best. Regardless, this squad is good enough to win scudetto imo, as long as we aren’t looking at 90+ pts. I don’t think this a 90+ pt squad anymore, but a top coach should be able to milk ~85 pts out of it.

Your what-if scenario requires something close to 15-16 though.

Nah, Pirlo was always a back and forth. No constant improvement. Same shit all season.

The results aren't there yet, but don't tell me we aren't improving in how the team plays.

Setting aside the Sarri or Allegri agendas. Our start is unacceptable and it´s happening on Allegri´s watch.

Now regarding killing off games, I think Max is actually right when he highlights being more defensively astute when we take the lead rather than go for more.

We´ve conceded in 18 league games in a row, which is worst in Europe. You make even half of those clean sheets and it would be a different story. This team isn´t good enough to keep possession without being countered, nor withstand pressure after taking the lead. So if we have to pick one of them to work on and implement, I too would go for parking the bus if we´re up. We just don´t have the players to do it differently.

Concentration is our biggest problem. With Pirlo we had problems starting the games, now it seems like we’re giving them away.

We basically have 4 or 5 players who don’t seem to be fully focused for the entire game (Szczesny, Benta, Rabiot, Dyba) and some like Morata have great moments but usually don’t kill it for the entire game. Something is wrong in their heads.

I blame Allegri for playing Rabiot as LM, besides a good half he hasn’t shown much so far. I thought that Deschamps used him in a similar role without much succes.

I don’t think we really know how good this squad is yet, post-Ronaldo. It could end up being the best squad in the league, and then the slow start to the season may have us all pissed if we don’t win scudetto after a dominant last 4-5 months. It could also be a pretty mediocre squad if these players like Tek, Bentancur, Rabiot, etc really aren’t useful solid players any longer and Dybala + Morata can’t get past the game to game inconsistency. So on an so forth. There is a decent ceiling for this squad but it requires a lot of “ifs” to turn out well imo. Inter has the most guarantees in their squad right now imo. We’re probably the highest ceiling of the squads a level below, but that doesn’t mean much yet.

Looks clear top 2 squad to me. Only other squad that can be compared is in*er's. We just played Minalty with the Salemakerses and Diazes, Kjaer and Tomori/Romagnoli at back, and Roma has Karsdorp, California and Ibanez at back.

I agree, but on top of that we just lack high IQ players. These guys don’t know how to position themselves, when and where to pass, how to press etc. It’s embarrassing some of the plays I see week in and out from Rabiot and Bentancur, two starters for a club like Juve.

I see United fans bash Fred, I see like 3-4 versions of that guy in our team, sometimes playing together as well. Bad positioning, bad touches, constantly getting turned over. It’s a sad watch.

Thats a bit circular reasoning tbh. If we win the league then this is the strongest squad but if we don't then its not. It is possible that this coach fails to bring more out of these players and another coach would have. Similar to how Lukaku, Sanchez, Young, Darmian and others went into a higher level last year than they've been at for the few years prior. Ofc its also possible that him and any other coach would fail cause they are truly finished/poor.

Do you think Rabiot, Bentacur, Arthur, Ramsey, Kulu, Berna can do better than they have been showing since they joined us? Or are you implicitly saying that if Allegri can't get them more out of them, no one can?

Nah, that’s not what I said at all. Nothing to do with whether we win the league or not. Inter’s squad currently has more guarantees in it. We have a lot more unknowns. Could young guys like Mckennie, Bentancur, Kulu, Kean, Locatelli, heck even Chiesa and de Ligt, etc develop into something better this year and turn us into a stronger squad? Yes. But that isn’t currently known.

Sandro has looked washed up for years. Tek was terrible last season and so far this one. Morty had a good last season but was awful in seasons prior. Dybala has had 1 good season in 3.

My point is, this doesn’t look like all that strong a squad even on paper, unless we are assuming on paper means every player performing at the level of the absolute best form they have ever been in.

And no I don’t think Allegri is the only coach who can get the best out of those or any players. Of course not. But that doesn’t mean all, or even any of those players are good enough for a top level club.
