He's not a winger either, he's Ronaldo. He doesn't have a set position, but he doesn't have the mentality, patience and movement of a #9. He's so used to having the ball that even when he starts as #9 he moves out a lot and leaves the box empty.
Maybe for a game here and there as I said playing on counters. Over an entire season? No chance. You'd have so little shots and chances inside the box because Ronaldo is not staying there and waiting for the ball.

The bottom line is where the team benefits from him the most and that's obviously when he's in the penalty box. If he agreed to be the #9 he'd also have much less defensive duties, he could almost stand still as far as tactics are concerned. He doesn't have the same pace/explosiveness to play outside/on the wing anymore but that doesn't mean he's not allowed to move around freely. If you're saying he's not a classic CF like Icardi/Trezeguet, then it seems like we all agree.
The biggest downside is he pretty much never battles it out with defenders with his back to the goal, he's not even trying. I guess we can get away with that, he's still a beast in the air and a counter-attacking predator
