IMO he fucked up by moving Alves to RW/RM for the Monaco games (even tho we won) and the final.
True but Cuadrado got hurt and fell a little form wise, plus we had zero depth up front when Pjaca got injured:

DA/Licht/Barza Bonu/Benatia Chiello/Ruganj AS/Asa
Pjanic/Marchisio Khedira/Lemina
Cuads Dybala/Rincon Mandzukic/Sturaro
Higuain

This is the kind of team we went to a CL final with. If we kept Labile, wed have a proper 433/442, and most likely wed still be waiting for someone to successfully defend the CL

Newcastle United target Allegri

Former Juventus and Milan coach Max Allegri has become the new favourite to take over at Newcastle United next season, claim reports in England.

According to The Sun, odds have been slashed on Allegri being named manager of the Magpies in 2020-21.

It would be part of a total revamp of the club, which is undergoing a takeover worth £350m.

Allegri has often said he would like to work in the Premier League and has been learning English.

Despite winning five consecutive Serie A titles and reaching the Champions League Final twice, Allegri was essentially fired by Juventus last summer to make way for Maurizio Sarri.

He has been repeatedly linked with Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain benches.

Newcastle United’s current manager is Steve Bruce.

I'm convinced we were better in 2017.

Our starting eleven wasn't better especially in midfield but we played at a way more impressive level. We were more experienced. Games against Barca and Monaco were masterclass

and the group stages were getting more and more impressive with allegri as the years went by. i remember shitting bricks against olympiacos in '14 with the same team that scored that impressive goal i posted. for '17, we became a machine.

and despite all of the routine juve acquired, i still liked the '15 team much more. i have nothing against the '17 team, but i didn't build the same bond with higuain, khedira or dani alves as i did with almost everyone in that classic '15 team. despite the bitter ending, that season surpassed all expectations. all we would have needed is to keep every key player, tevez and vidal included, get someone like pjanic to keep the competition alive in midfield after pirlo's farewell, get sandy and a cf to replace morata in the league. i loved that team to bits, for me, it was no contest with the '17 team. as always, it's just my preference, ymmv

I have to disagree on both accounts. Against Barca in the attacking department it was Dybala show and in defense, against both opponents we could have conceded half a dozen and wouldn't have the right to complain. Both ties could have ended like the CL final if the opposing attackers had their ducks in a row. In 2015 against Madrid it actually looked like our defense was in contol, like we prevented chances instead of just see Mbappe and Messi miss sitters.

Generally 14/15 seems like our last fully consistent CL Playoff season. Past that it was only 1-2 good games and the rest was luck or no luck, advance or go out

You're actually making a good point, we conceded so many shots in 2017, I forgot about that

I loved 2015. My main gripe with it is that we scraped through matches except for the Dortmund game.

But i'm actually reconsidering my opinion.
